DIEP Reconstruction

I had a bilateral mastectomy and silicone implants at the age of 40. Now at 53 I am considering getting the implants removed and having the DIAP flap instead. The reason being is that my implants itch like crazy. They have itched every since I received the implants. My doctor said he had never heard of anyone having itching from the implants. Has anyone else had this? So I am really thinking about having the implants removed. Does anyone know of a great surgeon for this in Indiana?

Hi kdrhoton,

I had immediate diep flap recon after a bi/mx in 2019. I'm so far grateful and happy with my choice although I still have questions sometimes about the healing process especially when it seems more women I meet have had implants and can't speak to the diep flap issues. They really do feel like my breast (externally) although, I'm still getting use to all of it.

I live close to NW Indiana and I went to Northwestern Memorial in Downtown Chicago where my entire team was. My plastics team is great.

yes! I have horrible internal itching. Right where a bra's underwire would sit . I also just learned my silicone implant had an intracaspular rupture. I follow up at my surgeon next week to look for answers

Thanks for the information. I will look him up. There are a few DIEP flap support groups on Facebook. Just search Diep flap support in the search bar. You are still healing from the DIEP Flap procedure?
