Tips for reducing significant 4-biopsy bruising?

Hi, all! I had four ultrasound guided, core needle biopsies done on Thursday. I had one biopsy on the left and it is just a bit tender to touch and has some slight discoloration. No problem, really.

On the right breast, I had three US-guided core needle biopsies. They were at 8, 10, and 12 o’clock positions, so rather close together, and two were close to the outer edge where they get bumped every time I move my arm on that side. There was difficulty getting through dense breast tissue to take the three samples from each mass, then difficulty stopping the bleeding afterward; both of those issues contributed to significant swelling and bruising on that side. I was diligent about ice and compression (as directed) for the first 48 hours, but it still looks and feel like I got kicked by a mule! I’m hoping some of you may have some tips for further alleviating the swelling, tenderness, and bruising over the next few days. I would love to hear any suggestions for what I may try to ease the discomfort a bit faster.

Thank so much for being such excellent resources! You guys are absolutely phenomenal!

I got a large hematoma after my biopsies. Took weeks for it to go away. I wore a sports bra to keep the breast supported. I think you can apply some warm moist heat to it after several days of ice. It gets better!

You can use Arnica gel to ease the bruising. It cannot be applied to open wounds but is effective.

Thank you guys so much! I have been using a heating pad and the shower massage setting on very warm to help break up some of those knots. Geez! I need to grab some arnica gel, too!

I found out this evening that I do have IDC in two of the four masses, so I may need to have some on hand as we move forward
