I just turned 30 & my gyno felt a new lump in my right breast. Only person I know if in the family with breast cancer is my great grandmothers sister so not very close ..When I was around 17 I had several masses removed from both but I don't remember what they were diagnosed as. This time around the mammagram showed several masses, all oval shaped. I have dense breast so they did a ultrasound as well and that showed them to be solid and not cysts. They seem to be concernedabout one because it has more internal vascularity than the others. It doesn't mean hyper or increased, just says internal vascularity noted while the others say mild vascularity. 2 of them are also listed that they have microlubated margins, other small ones are circumscribed. They told me I was a BI-RADS3 & told me to check it once a month for noticeable growth & come back in 6 months. I'm already a worry wort about everything to begin with so of course I'm freaking out! I called my previous surgeon and he is sending me my file from 2009 & I'm going to compare the findings to try to ease my mind. I almost want to call and ask for a biopsy but I don't want to seem pushy. Does anyone see anything super alarming with my results or am I just freaking myself out worse from googling definitions

Crystalco91, welcome to Breastcancer.org, although we're sorry you have to be here and worried. Until you hear from other members sharing their own experiences and advice, you can read the article What Mammograms Show: Calcifications, Cysts, Fibroadenomas, that reinforces that there are many other benign masses that can be found, especially among young women. Also, you can learn more on the category of your test results here: Mammogram Results: Breast Imaging Reporting and Database System (BI-RADS)

We hope this helps! Please keep us posted and we're sending our best to you!

Welcome Crystal! It is good your providers are on top of this so take solace in that. A once per month self-exam and a 6 month scan is standard for their level of concern. If you notice any change then call sooner for a biopsy. I suppose if your anxiety is too great maybe you could consider seeing if they are comfortable putting in an order for sooner though it sounds like you've been monitored closely and they are continuing to do so. I've had spots monitored and ultimately biopsied that turned out to be fibroadenoma and also normal diagnosis. The same was true last time around - monitored every 6 months for close to 1 1/2 years - came back DCIS (pre-cancer/pre-invasive cancer) plus a lot of precancerous and benign gunk.... Please let us know how things go and the results of your next scan when you undergo that.... Sending support your way.....

thank you for your reply! It has definitely helped ease my mind some. I did notice this morning that it seems a bit smaller, I was on my “ period” the day of my appointment but I’m on birth control so it’s not a typical period. I’m not sure if it can still fluctuate in size like a normal cycle. But I’m assuming smaller is better than bigger!!
