Surgical consultation tomorrow

• This is my first post. I am 43 years old. I have a 12 year old son and a 23yr old daughter. I found a lump Aug 2nd. I have a family history of breast cancer. My mom and her twin sister had it and had a full recovery along with my mom's cousin and my cousin was + for the BRCA Gene she recently had a double mastectomy. My mom also has ovarian cancer. She was diagnosed 7 years ago and a fairly recent diagnosis of non Hodgkins Lymphoma. I figured my chances of getting cancer were 102% 😩There's so much to my story but I'll focus on here and now. So I felt the lump ( I just had a clear mammogram April 30th) this thing came out of no where! Saw my primary. She sent me for an ultrasound then I had a needle core biopsy Wed 9/1... My pathology report showed up in my electronic chart the next day. Sept 2. I read it... There were the words "invasive ductal carcinoma" I haven't seen a Dr since I read those words. I've been researching all the terms driving myself insane trying to diagnose myself. I am strong then I am weak. I sob when I am alone. I smile and act "positive" when I am around people. I am so anxious for my appt tomorrow. I want to know what I'll be up against. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. Tomorrow I won't be as ignorant. I am SO HAPPY I found this site. I've been reading so many posts. I have SO many questions but first I need to hear my true diagnosis from a professional. One day at a time ❤

Yes to Alice's response. Please get a copy of your pathology report at the appointment. The information in that is very important. You will also discuss options for YOUR plan. You will have some time to think about what you're comfortable with as far as actual plan you follow. It's really important you're comfortable with your team, starting with your surgeon and then the plan itself... Please let us know how the appointment goes.... Sending support and gentle hugs....

Oh goodness, stop researching! I purposely had the electronic notification turned off when I had my biopsy so that I didn't make my self crazy.

I agree with the others, you need to wait to meet with the doctor to go over all of the specifics of YOUR diagnosis. My surgeon was wonderful...they had a whole binder made up for me with general information as well as all of my test results and highlighted information that pertained to my treatment plan.

Agree, you are already diagnosed. The appointment tomorrow will be the start of making your plan moving forward. You will get a lot of information tomorrow. Bring an extra set of ears if you have someone who can go with you; the details can start to get confusing. That person can be very helpful in making your decisions down the line, too. If your hospital/clinic doesn't allow for visitors now (mine doesn't), see if you can "phone a friend," have your support person on speaker phone to listen with you. Or ask if you can record the appt so you can listen to it again later for things you didn't catch the first time.

Good luck. You will hear a lot that it gets easier once you have a plan. That is more true than you can imagine.
