Recommendation for surgeons in Pittsburgh

Does anyone have any recent experience with breast surgeons and plastic surgeons for reconstruction in Pittsburgh? I saw several posts from 2012-2015 with recommendations but looking for recommendations and experiences more recently. Thank you to anyone who can share both positive or negative reviews.'

Hi Gretchen2021,

Jennifer G. Steiman, MD was my breast cancer surgeon and Vu T. Nguyen, MD was my plastic surgeon. Both are excellent as you can see from other online reviews.

Other doctors and PAs have remarked how good my scars look. I requested a flat closure with nipple grafts, which is not a common procedure for BC. I’m very pleased with the results.

Dr Steiman warned me that there was about a 15% rate of lymphedema following mastectomy. Because I already had experienced swollen ankles from a thyroid problem before BC, I was very concerned about this possible side effect. Unfortunately, I am in the 15%, but I’m managing fairly well so far. In addition to being an excellent surgeon, Dr Steiman is also caring and supportive.

I have a few lighter colored parts on my nipples where the cells didn’t survive (which is not unexpected). Dr. Nguyen suggested having those tattooed to have a more even coloring, but I have not done that yet. Feel free to PM me if you have other questions. Wishing you an easy recovery from your surgery.
