hi guys … i was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with idc in axillary tail. I found it myself and never imagined it would be breast cancer. I had a prophylactic double mastectomy 9 years ago in order to avoid this horrible disease bec i had lcis at 32. I am now 43 and am having such a time i cant sleep cant eat having nightmares. . Cry all day and night and cant cope. I am having an mri guided biopsy next week bec my mri showed non mass enhancement in my reconstructed breast. I feel alone and scared. I know i have friends and family but im alone w this as its me its happening to.

So sorry to hear that kelhab. Sending you so many good vibes!

Please don't hesitate to ask your doctor for something to help with the sleep/mood! This stuff is hard and it is no shame to take drugs that help! Sleep will absolutely help you with whatever is coming, both mentally and physically. Your docs may also be able to guide you towards mental health resources specifically for cancer patients.

If you want to contact someone right now, I had good experiences with Sharsharet. It is a Jewish organization but they serve everybody, and they will assign you a social worker that can provide both emotional and practical support.

Hi Kelhab, I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I have also been going through the same thing (recently diagnosed 3 weeks ago) & it has completely turned my world upside down. I have my good and bad days but experience many of the things that you are. I cry at random times of the day (even the smallest inconvenience is magnetized & leaves me in tears), I've lost 7lbs since diagnosis from not eating (how can I eat when I have bigger things to worry about?? Also, I've become a somewhat "overnight" picky eater as I am scared what I put in my body will cause the cancer to grow/spread), at times I'm very irritable, I feel all types of random aches & pains (where I didn't feel a thing prior to being diagnosed so its this mind of mine getting the best of me)... the list goes on... but know that you are not alone.

I'm finally reaching out to resources in order to get my mind right for the journey ahead. I also have xanax on standby in the event that I may need it. I personally am trying my best to avoid taking it but there is absolutely no shame in needing to take it! It will help you sleep & sleep/rest is a very powerful thing. We recently took a weekend getaway where I was able to get a good nights rest for the first time since dx and I felt like a whole new person.

Sending you hugs & good vibes!

I am very sorry to hear about your condition. I can relate to it as well. Initially, when my mom was suffering from breast cancer she couldn't sleep for days and she had PTSD symptoms like severe anxiety and nightmares. We as a family also had to go through a lot. However, one of my friends suggested me to try herbal remedies to treat the symptoms of PTSD as well as cancer, and believe me, it helped my mom to feel a lot better during her treatment. She became mentally strong which helped her to support her treatment. She changed her diet to 100 percent herbal by using some of the best ayurvedic herbs and that has really turned out to be a great decision. She followed iahas.com for all her herbal remedies and recipes but there are many sites you can refer to just in case you want to try this out.

I contacted Sharsharet when I was diagnosed too. They were very helpful. I also asked for help with my anxiety. I was prescribed low dose Xanax and it helped.
