Rant away about COVID, the vaccine, etc.

runor: Yes, we all will die one day. Some sooner than others, and cause of death is not always old age or illness. One's perspective may change if he/she is diagnosed with a terminal illness. I find It is so cavalier for people to be dismissive and willing to write off my life so easily because I'm old and will die anyway. Not an emergency for them.
Well, I've hung on with Stage 4 for almost 6 years and hope for a few more. At least you begrudgingly wear the damn mask. I hate them too! If I am unlucky enough to get a whopping case of Covid, I won't be intubated or resuscitated. Have a DNR-DNI. That way I won't take up a bed needed by others. I sincerely pray you never find yourself where I am on the BC train or get Covid for that matter. I also pray you do not transmit it to anyone. In the meantime, your silence on the increasing cases of Covid hitting the unvaccinated, and breakthrough cases of the vaccinated to a far lesser degree, should give you something to consider as you sign off. No one here wishes you ill although we are saddened and yes, angered, by your perspective. Not holding my breath waiting for you to get vaccinated. ‘Nuff said

I don't think this is a slug fest at all. I'm amazed at how civil it's been - yes, strong, strong feelings. Ideas/feelings go back and forth but for the most part I would think it's helpful. Maybe someone was blocked but in the scheme of things....For another perspective, it used to be that there were 10 pages of active topics going on (I'm from 2009) and they are dwindling and dwindling down to 2 and 3 pages. And it someone posts the same thing several times, maybe from another angle/perspective--what is wrong with that?

I wonder if I should tell my friend who lost her brother that it's not a crisis? His son, my friend's nephew, is now in ICU with his own case of Covid. No, not a crisis at all.
How dare anyone say such a blatant untruth after all the unnecessary deaths? How smug and heartless.
-
At least she won't be allowed a BC vaccine passport. That will save a few that she thinks are expendable. Almost 200,000 people signed up for it on it's first day.
Soon her access (masked or not) to many places here will be blocked.

I am on holiday but thought this experience fits this topic. I went out to the Channel Islands today. Accessible only by boat, it is made very clear that masks are to be worn at all times, inside and out. A couple was boarding ahead of me. The husband had his mask pulled under his chin. An employee reminded him of the mask policy and he then proceeded to argue with her! The boat operator is contracted by the National Park Service to provide service to the islands which are a national park and the policy is stated and restated every step of the way from making reservations to check in. Well, he argued for a few minutes until his wife, who looked like she would die of embarrassment, elbowed him in the side and then he pulled up his mask. Jerk!
As to old people being less of a loss because no one lives forever… I am a senior citizen with stage IV bc. I can speak with great certainty when I say that my family, if I contracted Covid19 and died, would consider it a tragedy and be extremely upset. It makes me slightly ill to know that some are willing to write off seniors as acceptable collateral damage from the pandemic. Yup, let's just kick grandma to the curb..

Yeah, Runor, I agree with you it is time you stepped away from this topic. You seem to have a narcissistic need to foment discord. Yes, you are sensitive & savage in your assessments. We know you don't approve of any of this & that is certainly your right. However, we all here hope you stay in your own bubble & don't infect anyone while you self-righteously tell yourself you are doing it only because you don't agree with any of the measures which have been taken. But, here's the thing - no one asked you what you thought. Everyone, from the grocery clerk who has to breathe the air of your pontification to the officials who tried their best to mitigate was has been a once in a century pandemic. Honestly, no one really cares what you think. People who have a more expert and measured approach to our global crisis as well as those of us little people who are just trying to keep ourselves and loved ones alive will carry on, hopefully without your hysteria.
Be well,
Jane

I’m saddened by the latest. While I abhor the idea of anyone being offended, I wonder what the heck we are all doing trying to find ways to stretch out our days before giving in to this crap disease since, apparently, our lives don’t count after the age of what? 12? 14? Or? I am someone’s child… albeit pushing 60…

I find I have nothing to say that won't get me banned. And frankly, not worth it.
-
Same. Not worth my energy & time.

I have been a watchful lurker here because I was not in agreement with the ability to rationalize deaths related to Covid in the elderly and did not wish to partake in an argument about this. Many of those who died had survived child diseases prior to the development of vaccines, infections prior to the discovery of antibiotics and other life prolonging treatments and their contributions to the world were immeasurable. They are missed and will continue to be missed by anyone whose paths they crossed. I applaud those of you who tried to present a reasonable approach but were being rebuffed and bombarded by "words" without weight or merit.
Again, "no man is an island entire of itself" as posted by Trishyla. "United we stand, divided we fall" so we need those who can get the vaccine safely, to do so as a means of controlling this pandemic. I have postponed health needs, limited contacts outside my "pod" and canceled scheduled vacations or had them canceled when US citizens were denied access due to our burgeoning infection rates. I am vaccinated, still wear my mask and social distance so I am doing my part as are many of you. I am tired of suffering fools.

I really don't agree that it's been a slugfest in here. That's quite a bit exaggerated. There have been words like stupid and dumb stated in response to some comments, but that's nothing compared to the death of an elderly person, yet the expectation is that people should not be offended by losing beloved elderly. Perspective is relevant, and it appears the people who did respond with not so strong (literally school yard level) language experienced Covid to the worst extent or pretty badly. But let's get our feelings, or is it pride, hurt because they wanna say F off, or feel the need to bombard a person with as much information they feel is necessary to get their point across? To be offended by words compared to not being offended by the physical consequence of death in the elderly is a very strange reason for taking offense to. As the saying goes, "sticks and stones..." IMO it's more offensive to dismiss a life than to try to convince someone that that life matters, especially when the rationale is that people should be able to live their life as they please. It's a conflicting viewpoint; the importance of quality of life, yet being okay to sacrifice others lives.
It's also odd that some people feel the need to express their dissatisfaction with evidence presented to them, yet are unwilling to accept another person's dissatisfaction with what they themselves are presenting.

I too "have 1 foot in the grave" along with all of us stage IV. Guess all the wonderful research we rely on to keep us alive for maybe a brief time could have been put to better use? Should we only write off stage IV, or maybe stage 1 too since there is no cure for bc, only NED? As far as "safe and effective" go...maybe you should research chemo drugs! Start with adriamycin aka red devil.
-
Arguing that it is or was not an emergency is also not taking into account what would have happened if we had not taken the measures we already have. Imagine the impact on hospitals and medical staff if we had just let the virus burn through the population. It is already horrendous. Why is that so difficult for people to understand?

It seems to me, that you rather enjoy using highly emotive (combative) language yourself. So do I, but I have schooled myself not to engage. We don't want a real slugfest. Good of you to step away. Perhaps a crack will let the light in. Be well.
My rant for today: my son got another "close contact" phone call today. What the fucking fucking fuck. He is vaccinated, but how many "close contacts" can he have before he catches Covid?
Lawd fadder. (Caribbean slang for "Lord Father" said while rolling one's eyes).
-
trinigirl - Hope your son isn't infected. Schools do seem to be stress testing the vaccine.
On runor- I know her so many words were callous. Frankly, her words never made me feel bad because they carry no weight. Her pandemic ideas come from failed physician/comedian podcasters(???). I have never expected she'd change her mind when she chooses not to listen to experts.
What surprised me is that she repeated her words when it hurt people the first time she posted them. Is she a glutton for punishing? jhl is right. Let's carry on without her hysteria.

@ runor
“I still think this pandemic was not a crisis and should have been downgraded in emergency status about 2 months in when we knew our kids were not dying. Is it okay for frail elderly to die? I guess if you expect another 100 years out of your frail elderly then you might be shocked and freaked out to learn that old people die. But to me, no, the deaths of those who had one foot in the grave already is not a global panic.“
My dear, with your diagnosis you might join the “one foot in the grave" group sooner than you hope.

It's like the anti intellect types have broken receivers. They are only able to transmit. Spewing the same craziness even after being shunned is proof that she is not taking in any information other than from the other nuts like Joe Rogan (wonder how he is doing with his covid?).

Someone with Stage II breast cancer who is on Tamoxifen, has a much higher chance of dying of uterine or breast (or ovarian) cancer than any side effect that the "experimental" mRNA vaccine may have. I blame this lapping up on pseudoscience and BS podcasters, who are mostly in it for the profit, on an education system that failed to teach critical thinking. The whole fringe "truth-seeking" anti-vax community is like a cult and when looked at that way, is best ignored. They're hopelessly unreachable, no matter how damaging to the rest of us they are. Let's hope science and an updated vaccine will negate the need for them to get vaxxed.
The irony is that they never understand or admit that they are primarily protected thanks to rest of us who did get vaccinated.
