Calcifications on my “good” side

Options

Yesterday I had a check-up mammogram and ultrasound on my “good" left side. They found some calcifications deep near the chest wall that they were unable to compare with prior images because pictures of that area had either been fuzzy or cut off entirely. The radiologist's first recommendation was to check again in six months. However, I can't stand the uncertainty, so they agreed to do a biopsy next Tuesday.

I'm still in the middle of chemo and deeply regretting not getting a BMX instead of a single. Even if this turns out to be nothing, I wonder how soon after radiation (on the right side) I could have surgery on the left.

I’m glad to have this place to type out my worries!

Just want to send support TXLorelei! I hope the biopsy goes well and you get benign results!

The biopsy results came back as LCIS.

I’ll see my doctor on Friday, and I’m going to ask for a left-side mastectomy as soon as possible. I know I need to finish chemo first, and I’m not sure about right-side radiation timing.

I met with both the MO and the surgeon today, and they’re recommending I have the mastectomy after chemo but before radiation. Apparently people usually get about a month break between the 2 treatments, so I can slot the surgery into that gap. This means some time in the first half of November.

Lorelei - Sounds sensible. Where are you being treated? I did my surgeries at Methodist, my chemo at Baylor and my radiation at MD Anderson. Eclectic to say the least. Wishing the best to a fellow Houstonian.

My doctors are all affiliated with Baylor and I had my previous surgery at St. Luke’s. Because of the teaching hospital aspect, a newbie med student sat in on part of today’s appointments (with my permission).

Thanks to all of you for the support
