ADH and IDC

Hi everyone,

I had a routine mammo in June and was directed to get a 3D follow up due to heterogeneously dense breasts. The 3D mammo was July 15 and they did an immediate ultrasound after a review of the scans (before I left). A small mass was found in the right breast. My biopsy was on Aug. 5 and received the call on Mon. Aug. 9 that it was IDC. Upon reading my pathology report I see I also have ADH, which is making me extra anxious. The mass is very small (less than 1 cm) in the right breastand I at first thought this would be relatively “easy”. But with this wrinkle I am on edge. They also recommended a breast MRI for both breasts to make sure nothing else is there that was missed.

My surgical consult is in one week- on the 19th. It feels like forever. I am only 44 yrs old and having no symptoms and not feeling “sick” I have quite the cognitive dissonance going. How can I have cancer when I feel perfectly normal?

My daughter is 13 and lost a friend to brain cancer when they were both 10 yrs old, so this is causing a lot of anxiety in my home. I’m trying to keep the family positive and to not reveal the extent of my nerves to them. With the pandemic I don’t have much contact with friends in person right now either. I am glad to have found this community - and hope we can help one another thru this roller coaster ride!

Thanks for listening!

Hi Sue and welcome though sorry you need to be here! I just want to offer support.... the waiting is sooooo difficult. I imagine more difficult for you at this stage know you have cancer now and waiting to find out what the plan is. Once you have your plan will help a lot - concretes to help you and your specific cancer and focusing on each step that's right in front of you. I'd recommend spending some time on the IDC forums/threads if you're not already doing so. I think you'll find a lot of good info even while you're still waiting to see what your near future holds...
