Wigs
I'm starting AC chemo Friday and I'm terrified of loosing my hair I finally got my hair to grow long and no I'm going to loose it all. Not to mention I've been dying my grays. I've looked at numerous websites and don't know who is trustworthy. Does any one have any suggestions?

Hi.
I ordered my wigs from wigs.com. I liked the lace front synthetic wigs. I bought a long wig and short wig. The long wig was closer to my natural hair color - dark brown and the short wig had more blond highlights. I decided to have a little fun with the short wig. I liked both wigs quite a bit. Now that my hair has grown back, the wigs do not fit my head, which is a shame, because I really liked the style of both wigs

My oncologist recommended a local hairdresser who also worked with cancer patients. He was amazing in helping me to selected a wig from catalogs, ordered the wig, and trimmed it on my head so it looked quite natural. If that option is not available, you can browse online for wigs from various manufacturers. There are a number of YouTube videos which review wigs, and you can see them on an actual person. I’ve been at this for awhile and know what works for me so I am comfortable ordering online. While there are a number of reputable online dealers, I have been happy with headcovers.com. They cater to cancer patients with hair loss and carry a line of accessories you may need.
I’m sure you will get many good suggestions from others who have dealt with hair loss from chemotherapy. This will be hard, but it will help if you have your hair cut very short very soon after you start chemo. This will avoid having strands of hair appear on your pillow or as you shampoo. It can be a messy process. Hang in there!

Thank you for the topic. I did not go to wigs.com yet. TLC was one i found on this site. I have had long red hair for 40 years. I finally have the event that is making me cut it!!!!! Chemo starts Friday the 13th. I am looking for a long one and a short one too. The hair people at COH i am having do it, This is what they do, so Monday after Chemo.

I also had big feelings about losing my hair. Didn't know how I would get through it and the most amazing thing happened to help me with the loss. A few weeks before chemo I had my hair cut shorter (I told my hair stylist that I had cancer and what was coming up). That helped and and then when my hair started falling out it felt kind of painful so my hair stylist suggested a buzz cut (pretty short) and to come in after the shop was closed and she would buzz it off. She had a sister who went through cancer so she was quite comfortable with all this. So when I got there after the shop closed she had wine for us and she had another woman who had been through the same thing with her hair. It was so supportive. It was a miracle, really. Sometimes help just shows up for us when we really need it.

I just watched this video yesterday to help me pick out a wig.

I also looked at Reddit’s Wig thread. They have a list of trusted online sellers. I’m in Canada so I found a good Canadian online seller but most of the places are American.
I’m still struggling with caps a bit. I do have about $300 for a wig and feel like I will wear it a lot less then just a cap. I hate the idea of spending hundreds of dollars on caps as well as a wig, but feel like I will get more wear out of them then my wig.

I purchased all my wigs from a local hair dresser, but the brand I went with was Jon Renau. I've seen them on wigs.com. They're pricey but so worth it. My best to you all!

My long hair wig is a Jon Renau wig as well. It’s really good quality and I love how it looks. I hate to admit it, but it is actually nicer than my real hair (much less frizzy). For everyday errands, I would wear just a cap or hat without a wig. For social or business occasions, I would wear one of my wigs.

Your doc/hospital should recommend a nearby specialist for wigs and other prosthetics or items useful for cancer patients. Many insurances will cover it.
As excited as I was to have the wig, I rarely wore it. I much preferred the pretty frilled beanies: https://www.mastectomyshop.com/turbans-headscarves...

I went to a little shop my Dr recommended. The owner was a drag queen and had the most amazing selection. He gave big discounts to cancer patients. I've used them for Halloween, but sometimes I think it'd be cool to wear them on my non hair washing days! Here we are from a Halloween party about 3 years ago! He is wearing one of them too LOL
I actually messed up, blame it on chemo brain. The party had a prom horror theme! LOL

I had a very nice wig and wore it for a couple of weeks. It was hot and itchy, and I felt claustrophobic. Mostly I wore caps and beanies, and toward the end of the whole shebang, just went commando. Everyone at home, work, and church knew I was bald and no one was shocked. Kind of freeing, actually.
It might have been different if I were a teacher or receptionist and interfaced with the public a lot.
