Hello everyone,

I had my mammogram almost three weeks ago, my Doctor didn't really explain it to me. Got the letter from Diagnostic Imaging Center that I need additional imaging evaluation is needed because the imaging exam is heterogeneously dense. SO what that it means ? Hope to hear from you. I called today for another mammogram and I'm scheduled in two weeks. I hope everything is okay.

That means your breast tissue has large areas of fibrous dense tissue and glandular tissue, and also has some fatty tissue. The dense tissue makes it hard to get a good read with a mammogram. You're being called back, not necessarily because they think anything is wrong, but because they want more information. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Hi. Exactly what Mountain Mia said. I have heterogeneously dense breast too. Got called for a follow up 2 years ago - all clear.

Got called again this year and now biopsy on Monday but please don’t worry. They just can’t see anything and need to double check.

My friend is 50 so has been having her mammograms for 10 years and gets called back every 6 months due to dense breast. Interestingly, she is from UK and she doesn’t get called back there. So not sure if our doctors are more conservative or what.

Don’t stress. Let us know how it goes but don’t stress.
