TNBC with Ki67 80%. Scared.

Any other TNBC'ers out there with a high Ki67? I was just diagnosed this week and am still trying to figure out what it all means.

Yup. My KI67 was in the upper 90's. 97, maybe? I tried hard not to think about it. But here I am, getting ready to mark five years since diagnosis on August 29th. On April 4th, 2022 I hope to celebrate five years at NED (No Evidence of active Disease). That's when your risk of reoccurrence/metastasis drops back down the same as any other woman your age.

My chemo buddy just celebrated her five years NED this month. She was in her forties when diagnosed; I was in my fifties. We're both still standing. Bruised and battered, but still here.

High KI67 is scary as hell, but it does have an upside. It can really respond well to aggressive chemo.

Thank you, Trishyla! That really helps me feel better. I just found the lump in my breast 2 weeks ago, and my head is spinning. It is so nice to know that there are others here who have come through this on the other side.

Yes, a fellow TNBC'er with a Ki67 range of 80-90%. I remember the breast surgeon briefly referencing that number. My response was "Good grief!" He stated "Just another piece of the puzzle." In my head I kept that number at 80%. Also, a nurse told me that chemo can be very effective on TNBC.


Hang in there. It can be such a blur of confusion and information.

One more positive story. The leader of my in person breast cancer support group was diagnosed with stage III TNBC when she was 62. She'll be turning 83 this year. She's the one who gave me hope.

Myki67 wasn’t as high as yours. It was only 60%, but I did ask my radiologist about that. I’m pretty sure she said a high ki67 with a high grade kind of go hand in hand. She also said that would qualify me for an extra radiation “boost.” Instead of 3 weeks of radiation it would be.4 weeks and that extra week is going to be harder or more tiring. This may or may not be the case for you, but I wanted to share in case it helps.

My cancer center didn't measure Ki-67, but my tnbc was grade 3, which is typical of triple negative. Grade 3 is the highest grade, meaning that the cancer cells had least resemblance to healthy cells in appearance and growth. Grade 3 cells have a higher growth rate. Given my other characteristics, my cancer center wouldn't have treated my case differently even if my Ki-67 was measured and known.

One more TNBC sister here, also NED three years after diagnosis... My 9 Nottingham necrotic BEAST of a tumor came on fast and furious... I had 3 or 4 affected nodes, one with 3cm tumor in it.

My cancer was defeated by chemo (assisted the integrative therapies I did). TNBC needs full force response but you can get rid of it and as Trishyla says, after 5 years we get to be POST cancer!
