I just came across this compression device. It looks interesting:

That does look interesting. Wonder if Medicare and insurance would cover it. Probably not, too new, and likely very expensive.

The idea of pumping lymph while remaining active is sure enticing, but this seems to be an arm-only compression devise. Pumping the lymphatic fluid out of your arm without moving it across your chest (or, if your LE is bilateral, downward) can cause real problems. Before Flexitouch initiated a pumping devise that includes a chest garment to move the fluid to an area where healthy lymph nodes could take it up, there were pumps like this that only cleared the arm but didn't move the fluid out of the area. The result of using them over time was a hard ring of fibrosis at the top of arm that was no longer able to be reduced or treated. (I've had LE for almost twenty years now, so I actually remember those days!) There are other pumps on the market now that move the fluid away from the top of the arm, but this doesn't appear to offer that feature. Maybe with time and experience they'll be able to develop pump garments that we can wear while playing catch with our fur babies, but it looks like they have a way to go yet. Great idea, though!

    Hugs,
    Binney

Makes total sense, Binney. Thank you. I'll stick with my Flexitouch.

My lymphedema therapist recently asked me to participate in a trial study using this device. It is exactly like Binney said. I stopped using it after 2 weeks of being in the trial because it felt like it was pushing fluid up under my armpit. Of course, they told me I could manually move the fluid myself, but I prefer the flexitouch. And, walking around with it on was not as easy as it appears. Flexitouch is by far the better at this point. At least they are trying to make things easier and maybe one day they will.
