Hi. I'm on exemestane and have moderate joint pain in my legs. The kind that makes me feel like I'm ninety when I stand up from a seated position. I already tried letrozole and had the same problem.

Can anyone on exemestane who also had joint pain tell me if it ever went away? And if so, approximately how long did it take to go away? Thanks.

    hi Sharon,

I always hesitate to give my experiences with reactions to meds because we are all different. I am currently on exemestane but have also been on anastrozole and letrozole. I was on each for at least three years. The reason I kept switching was that I hoped to have less joint pain but in the end they were all the same for me. Despite this, I am alive which is the best side effect so I will stay on exemestane for as long as I can. Take care.

Sharon - I am on letrozole but have more difficulty with some generics than others, due to reactions to the fillers they add. Right now i was issued a bad one and have had foot, achilles, and knee pain issues for the past 6 weeks since I started this pack. When I get the good brand that I tolerate well I have none of these issues. Have you had a chance to try different brands?

That being said, the best thing I do to help with the leg stiffness and pain is to exercise and keep moving. Some days I exercise (much) harder than others but even a gentle walk will help. Swimming or gentle aqua aerobics may also be helpful, or yoga or other gentle activities.

Hi....I am on my fourth estrogen blocker, being exemestane, because of the side effects. I am experiencing terrible muscle and joint soreness/pain. I can hardly walk anymore. The Dr. thought this one may be different but not! My blood work looked good on it but don't know if I can continue on it. I have no life...my best place is in bed! I was always so active so this is hard to take. Not sure what to do. Anyone else having these issues?

    rasiekierka and others struggling.....

I've been on exemestane for over six years now. About eight months ago, my feet began to hurt. As the day progressed, they would hurt more and then feel better if I stayed off of them. I though it was the exemestane, but after visiting an orthopedic MD who specializes in feet, it turns out that I may have a stress fracture in one of my feet! I wish I'd visited him earlier. Yes, exemestane can cause joint pain and that may very well be what you are experiencing. However, it may also pay to consider other conditions and eliminate them as a source of your pain. ((Hugs))

I feel for you, rasiekierka. I also tried acupuncture for 12 sessions and it didn't help me in any obvious way. I assume you have already tried glucosamine. I stopped for a while because it's three giant pills but I think I'm ready to do that experiment again.
