Changing Radiation Oncologist half way through treatment

I am really in a bind. My RO ran out of the room after 3-5 minutes during our weekly visit. He never gave me a chance to ask questions. I was stunned. I contacted the Nurse Navigator and asked to see her the next day after my appointment. I explained I had questions that I needed answered and the RO did not give me the chance to ask. I did not hear from her and when I was done the treatment I asked the techs to please get her for me. She did come over and meet with me and answer my questions. However, she asks me are you here for your planning? I said no this is my 11th treatment. Talk about feeling invisible!! She was there for my planning! But back to the RO. So the next weekly visit, he comes in the room checks by breasts, from across the room, and then types into the computer and makes a BIG deal about me asking him some questions. Very arrogant and obviously not happy I spoke to the NN.All his answers were yes, no and nothing more. I am dreading going in 2 days for my visit. I feel like I am getting no information or feedback on my treatment. This is being done at the hospital and there are other RO's on staff. Has anybody switched in the middle before?

    Hi Mel58,

That sounds completely unacceptable. I would not be comfortable either. I would ask to speak with the head of the division to express your concerns, or let your Medical Oncologist advocate for you to have you assigned a different RO for better treatment.

I did switch my RO right before treatment because I did not have confidence in the clinic to which I was referred. I knew it was going to delay my start, but I feel MUCH more confident where I am now, and many have expressed positive personal testimonies of the place where I am now going. I'm glad I switched. I hope things improve for you! This is not the time for them to let you down.

    Love and blessings,

    Esther
