Palpable lump, not visible on ultrasound!
Hi all, I’m new here. My names Melissa and I recently found a breast lump.
The lump is like a pea, hard and isn’t moveable, as my doctor stated, “my finger slides right over it.” I recently had an breast ultrasound and whilst the tech could feel the lump, she couldn’t see anything on the screen. The Radiologist report stated that the ultrasound was “unremarkable” and only normal breast tissue was visualised. They recommended another ultrasound in 6 months.
Whilst I am very happy, nothing showed up on the ultrasound, I am concerned the lump is easily felt but not seen.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? I am leaning towards getting a second opinion to settle my anxiety, but I’m not sure if I am being dramatic.
Any advice is welcomed!

Hi mgillies, and welcome to Breastcancer.org,
We're so sorry for the worries that bring you here, but we're really glad you've found us and decided to join and post. It's great you're being diligent about your breast health. And if you think a second opinion will help ease your mind, you should do it. There are all kinds of benign reasons for breast lumps, but if you don't think you can peacefully wait 6 months to check up on the lump, hearing from another doctor that it's of no concern should help put you at ease.
Others will be by soon to weigh in with their advice and experience. Please let us know how things turn out!

Thank you for your response! I know it most likely is benign, but I am of course stressed.
I don’t think I could wait another 6 months, so I think I will get a second scan just to be sure.
Thank you once again

Hi Melissa!
I'm glad you are advocating for yourself and getting another scan.
My lump was not visible on the ultrasound either, but because the Radiologist who read the ultrasound could feel the lump, he ordered a biopsy. I'm happy he did! Best of luck to you and hoping that the second scan comes back in your favor.

I had a spot that was missed on a mammogram and then picked up by an MRI. When we looked for it on the ultrasound we couldn't find it because the nipple was creating a shadow. It was ultimately a papilloma, a benign finding.
Was a mammogram done or considered?

Thank you so much for your replies! I am feeling better about requesting another scan.
I have one booked in for Tuesday, so this will at least calm my stress over this.
I have breast implants and dense breast, so my doctor said a mammogram wouldn’t be beneficial to do. I am not sure this is correct or not, I just took her word on it.

Wishing you well with the second scan! Please let us know how that goes.....

Hey ladies, sorry it's taken me so long to jump back on. Unfortunately I am in the same position, as the second ultrasound showed nothing, although once again the lump was easily felt. I guess I'm just at a loss to what to do next. I had a look at my scan and I swear I can see something, but I am not a doctor so it must be insignificant. I tried to add it on, but I can’t add photos.Thank you for all your support!

It sounds like you need a breast MRI.

Was this ultrasound done after a mammogram? If not, sometimes even a mammogram can clarify things. And then if it doesn’t….an MRI would probablybe in order.

I agree with the MRI......
