39 years old, BI-RADS 4C, speculated nodule
On June 25th, I noted an indentation on my lower left breast when lifting my arm. I couldn't feel anything, but I got in to see my doctor the same day. On July 2nd, 2021, I had bilateral mammography and left breast ultrasound. Mammogram reported only several scattered probable benign calcifications noted bilaterally. However, the Ultrasound found a 1.5cm spiculated hypoechoic solid nodule with mild posterior shadowing and summary as highly suspicious malignancy. Based on what I understand from my report, the most likely outcome is breast cancer. I read that spiculated is highly predictive (greater then 80%) of malignancy as well as the node size being greater then 0.9 cm.
I have a positive family history of breast cancer. My paternal grandmother had breast cancer twice, ten years apart. She had a mastectomy both times. I don't know much else. She was older than 50, for sure. My paternal aunt also has breast cancer and had a lumpectomy and radiation, recurrence, and a mastectomy. My maternal aunt died in her 60's after a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and an aggressive recurrence. She passed away under five years from the initial diagnosis. My parents both had cancer young (my mom early 30's, my dad early 40's) but neither breast cancer.
I am patiently waiting for a call to book my core needle biopsy. I am in Canada and things are still opening up here from COVID-19. Since I got the Ultrasound on a Friday of the long weekend, my doctor was not available, and the on-call doctor did not send a referral. We have a health centre here that does it all, but they have to call me to book an appointment, which is torture.
I guess I just wanted to get it off my mind. Anyone else in a similar situation? Anyone else with a BI-RAD 4C waiting?
EDIT: Biopsy date is Thursday. So just under two weeks from finding the lump to biopsy, so that makes me happy.

Hi 1982! I just want to send support! I hope you are able to get the biopsy scheduled very soon.... Do what you can to keep yourself busy/occupied while waiting for the biopsy and then results. I hope others will comment before long....
-
Thank you Living for sending your support. Its much appreciated.

Just wanted to to add my support. I am sorry you are facing this. If you think of it ask at the biopsy how you will receive the results and a timeline. Ice packs and Tylenol were my friend after my biopsies. I just wore a sports bra so I could tuck the ice pack in my bra. I actually slept in it after my second biopsy for comfort. All my best to you for your procedure and the waiting.
-
Thank you, great advice about the sports bra. I will def ask about when my results will be back. The clinic said when they booked the appointment up to 2 weeks, but my doctor had thought my biopsy results should be back in a few days. I hope my family doctor is right. I feel like the clinic days up to two weeks so people don’t callall the time….

Sending support and virtual hugs.

Update for others who search:
Biopsy was today. I met with the surgeon today before the biopsy. I have a second appointment in 2 weeks. There 100% is surgery no matter what it is. I asked for a differential diagnosis and she said radical scar but from what I read, that's unlikely as they usually aren't seen on ultrasound and wouldn't be pulling on my breast ligaments. I'm 100% prepared for a breast cancer diagnosis on the 21st. I get a bilateral breast MRI soon too.
I will update for ppl who are googling after the appointment.
Edit: MRI is the 15th.

The pathology came back as invasive mammary carcinoma (ductal). There’s no other info at the moment but thought I’d update for those who search and want answers.
-
Sorry to hear this 1982!!! I hope you get specifics soon so you and your team can start formulating a plan you're comfortable with.... Please let us know when you get more info... I'm glad you have that follow-up with the surgeon!!
-
ugh so sorry to hear. Just wanted to say hi and lend whatever support you need.
-
Thank you both. I hope the rest of the results come in quick. This waiting really hard.
-
oh 1982,
I’ve been reading your post and quietly hoping you got benign result (or anyone who were waiting biopsy result). So sorry that you have to join us. Just want to lend my support and please continue to ask, or look into for insight this forum can offer (This site helped me a lot when I was diagnosed too). Hugs
-
hi 1982M, sorry you find yourself here. Yes, you are right, the waiting is very hard in the beginning. I have a very similar diagnosis to you, same age. Those weeks of waiting on tests and coming up with a plan are agonizing. But try to take it one thing at a time. Once you have a plan for surgery, it will get more manageable. Not totally sure how it i in Canada, but with your family history it sounds like you would benefit from genetics testing. Maybe something you can ask for a referral to do now in the waiting period. It usually takes a few weeks to get back results.

Thank you everyone. This site has already been so helpful, I really appreciate your advice, guidance and support.

FINDINGS:
Right:
At the 1:00 retroareolar region is an approximate 0.9 x 1.0 x 1.0 cm,
hypoechoic, nonparallel, spiculated, shadowing mass with no internal
vascularity. Interestingly, there is no mammographic correlate, even
in retrospect. This is suspicious sonographically, however.
Ultrasound-guided core biopsy is recommended.
Left:
At the 3:00 retroareolar region is a benign simple cyst measuring 8 x
4 x 11 mm.
ASSESSMENT:
BI-RADS 4 - Suspicious.
Anyone else have an ultrasoundlike this?
