Waiting on MRI results...
Hello Everyone!
I went to my first meeting with a breast surgeon/specialist a few weeks ago and she informed me that I have high risk for breast cancer (though she was less-than-clear about what my risk was and why). I am now on the every six months plan, alternating between MRI and Mammo/US. She wanted a baseline MRI, so even though I just had my mammo/US last month (usual benign stuff for me: cysts, a fibroadenoma I have had for a while, some scattered benign calcifications, extremely dense), I had an MRI this past Thursday.
I'm anxiously awaiting the results. I know that a good mammo/US doesn't always mean that the MRI will be clear, but I'm hopeful that it gives me a good chance of a clear MRI. I have an appointment with the breast doctor next Thursday, so I expect that's when I get results. It's a stressful weekend. I have my step-father's funeral on Monday (he died at the start of COVID of stomach cancer and we are just now able to have the funeral) and my mom has had stage iv breast cancer (diagnosed de novo) for 5 years (most of their marriage was spent fighting cancer).
I'm mostly just getting some thoughts and stress out here, but if anyone has any advice on getting through the next several days of waiting, or any thoughts on my likelihood of a benign MRI with a very recent benign mammo/US, I'd be happy to hear!
Thanks!

They have posted picture, but no report. In fact, they delayed release of the report until next Saturday. Why would they do that? No one has called me, my appointment with my breast specialist isn't until Thursday, and I am seeing ghosts in the pictures...I'm freaking out now.

HI Riccoriel
I would contact the breast surgeons office and request a copy of the report and explanation over the phone.Forget about waiting for your appointment. You have a right to know the results as soon as they are available Condolences regarding your step father, and sorry to hear about your moms struggle with cancer.

Roccoriel I am sorry to hear of the loss of your stepfather and your mother's struggles with cancer. What a difficult time for you to have imaging concerns on top of all that. I know with my providers, sometimes a few details about the test will show in my portal, but the "diagnosis component" is unavailable until it is completed. Perhaps that is the case here as well. Veeder has given you good advice, which is to go ahead and reach out to your doctors office for clarification on whether or not your MRI has been completely evaluated.

Just want to welcome you Roccoriel and send support..... You certainly do have a lot on your plate! I agree on getting the report if it is completed. If the doc's office won't provide it then go through medical records. I usually just go through medical records.... usually more efficient.... Please let us know when you hear something....

Thank you all for your advice, support, and kind words. I saw my doctor today, and everything was clear (cysts and "normal" stuff, nothing scary). I asked why they release the images and not the report, and she suggested that I wait for the report before viewing the images, easier said than done, but probably good practice since I don't know what I'm looking and can only guess the worst.

glad to hear that all was normal. Normal is great!
