Oxybutynin for hot flashes- Worked for me!

Hi all! I have been suffering terribly with hot flashes. I was having up to ten a day and waking up four or five times a night drenched with sweat. When I went in for follow up with my MO, he told me he's been prescribing Oxybutynin for this and it's been helping a lot of his patients. So, I told him I'd give my right pinky toe to get rid of the hot flashes, let me try it. And...

Yesterday I only had 2 hot flashes and didn't wake up sweaty at all last night! I just started the full dose on Sunday. Wanted to let everyone know. It's worth a try!

Learn something everyday. An overactive bladder drug helps with hot flashes. Good for you! I hope it keeps working. I did menopause naturally around age 50 and there were times I was having multiple hot flashes for hours on end. I described it to my girlfriends as every minute of everyday for twenty four hours a day! LOL The OB/GYN said they would only prescribe something after I was 1 year period free. That visit I was 10 months and wouldn't you know I had 2 more cycles after that (heavy ones where I thought for sure I would bleed to death) Then, things started to calm down. Fast forward to 56 years old post menopausal and bc. On my 1st MO visit I reported hot flashes more often then usual and that they started right after surgery. She looked at me odd since I hadn't started the AI yet. It's recorded in my record as "stress factor" Last week I was not feeling myself at all, and sure enough I was having more of them. Yesterday, I recorded 1 or 2-normal for me. Anyone else ever heard of stress as a trigger to a hot flash/or sweat? I always thought the main cause is lack of estrogen.

Thank you, ARmom4. Is there a certain dosage I should know? I’ve suffered severe hot flashes for almost eight years, after a partial hysterectomy. I’d love to put them away and stop peeing so much at the same time. I know it’s only been a few days, but can you report back if you have any side effects.

KBL- I started at 2.5mg for one week then increased to 5mg. The only side effect so far is dry mouth. I'm on the third day of the full dose and it is definitely helping!

Update: One week on the full dose. Last night was the second night without waking up sweating. Not even once! Daytime hot flashes have decreased by about 60% and the ones I do have are not as bad and don't last as long.

That's great. Thank you, again, for the update. I hope it keeps working for you, and it's so nice it's happening so quickly.
