Unusual Symptom Breast Dent

Hi! I was wondering if I could hear some of your opinions on some changes I'm experiencing in one breast. I am 25f and a mother of one rambunctious 2 year old.

A few weeks ago, I noticed when I was drying my hair after a shower that if I raised my arms, I could see a little flat spot at the bottom of my breast below my nipple. (Though, to be honest, I can't tell if it's a flat spot, or a bulge in my breast making it look like a flat spot.) I brushed it off at first because I was more concerned with an eczema rash I was having on the nipple of the OTHER breast at the time.

But recently, I came across a story about a woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer after finding a small dent at the bottom of her breast that looked scarily similar to the one I have now. And that a tumor pulling on a ligament is the cause. I couldn't find any other cause other than cancer that could cause a dent when I consulted Dr. Google (even though I know Google not a great source of info).

I have OCD and health anxiety, so I panicked and called my doctor. They had me in the next day, took a brief look and did a breast exam and immediately referred me for an ultrasound. I have the ultrasound later this week. The waiting is making me extremely anxious.

The doctor did say I had fibrocystic breasts. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced changes to the shape of their breasts because of fribrous/cystic growths. Or if maybe I really do have a reason. To worry?

Thanks!

I don't know Iris... I just want to welcome you and offer support. I'm glad you called your doc and have an ultrasound scheduled so you can see what's going on.... The waiting is just really hard... there's no way around it. Do what you can to keep yourself busy during the waiting... breathe deeply, do some fun things, etc. even if this will all still be weighing on you.... Please let us know how things go...

Just to update, I have my US first thing in the morning tomorrow. But over the past few days, my armpits have been aching too. Sometimes with shooting stabby pains. I've also been getting aches in my collarbone area. In your personal experience, is this something any of you have dealt with? I do have anxiety, and maybe I'm blowing this out of proportion, but I can't help but think it's a bad sign.

Breast cancer (DCIS/LCIS) run on my mom's side of the family. And since I'm a catastrophic thinker, I can't help but wonder if this could be cancer with lymph node involvement. Though I know I'm just going to have to wait and see with the US.

    hi 1982m

I got my ultrasound results last week. They came back clear with no abnormalities. Negative everything. But the radiologist was a young guy who was pretty dismissive and said breast cancer doesn't cause pain. Which is absolutely not always true.

My symptoms are worsening and persistent so I sent a message to my obgyn and they're going to see me next week. The armpit pain is really aggravating and the dent/protrusion in my breast is very gradually getting worse so I think a second opinion is reasonable. I'll continue to update when I have more.

I hope that your biopsy comes back negative for bc and anything serious! Best wishes and good vibes to you!

    Hi Iris,

Your armpit pain may also be a muscle issue because you might not notice your body curls forward in order to protect ur breast. So don't jump too much on d worst, be aware of ur posture too. Sometimes, posture problem causes breast pain too

Well at least initial positive news though I hear your concern and feeling dismissed by radiologist. Best with your follow-up!

Hi! I wanted to post an update. I had a follow up appt to discuss my negative Ultrasound results but my co tinting symptoms. The obgyn I saw thinks that the odd shape in my breast is from a collapsed milk duct from 2 years ago I experienced by "deciding not to breast feed." (Breast feeding mommas rock but I had specific reasons why I felt I was unable to and don't think I should've gotten shamed for it.)

I asked him if that would explain the pain I've been experiencing and he just kind of rolled his eyes. Either way, I'm feeling a lot less anxiety after having been checked. He also felt around for lymph nodes and didn't find anything suspicious.

I'm still experiencing pain but the dent hasn't gotten any worse. However the pain I'm feeling in my breasts and armpits have spread down my arms a bit. For now, I'm choosing not to worry. I have a regular yearly in a couple months. If there's no improvement, I'll bring it up again and be sure to update.
