Mass found in left breast, so worried
I'm 49 and have always gotten my annual mammos since I turned 40. I have dense breasts. In 2016 or so, I had a cyst in my left breast. They drained it and it was benign. In 2018 I had a biopsy on my right breast due to calcifications and it was benign. I went in for my 3-D mammo on Saturday and this morning the report states that they found an 11 mm cyst on my left breast. The report states:
"BREAST COMPOSITION: The breasts are heterogeneously dense, which may obscure small masses
FINDINGS: 11 mm mass upper outer posterior left breast. Unchanged group of previously biopsied
benign calcifications lower inner right breast.
Patient's lifetime Gail model risk: 14.5% (20% and greater considered high risk)
TriHealth Family History Risk Score: 0 (1 and greater considered high risk)"
I called the breast center and have an ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. I suffer from anxiety and depression on a normal basis, so now I'm really, really worried. My breast is still a little sore from Saturday's ultrasound. I just want some answers. Ugh. Anyone experience similar situation?

I don't see where they specially state this is a cyst. It states a mass. A mass can be many other things than cancer. I'm sure you are aware that most findings, I think 80%, turn out to be non cancerous. So your odds are good. Hang in there and it looks like you'll have some more information soon. I've suffered from health anxiety my entire life so I understand. Strangely enough, ever since I was diagnosed with breast cancer my anxiety iis gone. Let us know how everything turns out. I'm sure others will have lots of great information for you.

Sorry for the confusion, I meant "mass" not cyst. A few years ago I had a cyst in my left breast. They drained it and it was benign. This time they found a mass.

Wishing you well phoebe! Glad your ultrasound is tomorrow - less waiting... you should get news right after? Please let us know and take good care of yourself today!

Hi Phoebe,
I know what you mean about pain after the biopsy. Mine lasted awhile but if course does go away. I'm sorry that it's a stressful time of waiting. I agree with Krose53... it's kind of strange but my anxiety has gone way down since my bc adventure began, because I no longer have to feel guilty about taking care of myself and have become so much healthier in a lot of ways that I would not have, but for a cancer diagnosis or even a cancer scare.
Meanwhile, while waiting I hope you will find some ways to reduce anxiety(easier said than done, I know) . That will look different for everyone. For me it was putting myself in God's hands so I was at peace with whatever path he chose for me because I trusted in his love. Everyone will have a different way of handling the anxiety. That was just mine.
Blessings,
Esther
