Bone Island

Options

I have recently started experiencing pain in my left hip/groin area. After a couple of weeks I decided to contact my oncologist. When I got a call back they told me that a ct scan I had back in January showed a possible bone island in the left iliac region and recommended comparison with previous scans if available (no previous scans to compare by the way) so since i”m now having pain in that area they want to follow up. The kicker is they never told me about anything showing up on my ct in January and in fact told me it was clear. The report says possible benign. Has anyone had a bone island that turned out to be cancer? I’m a little freaked out.

Hi--I had a CT scan and bone scan and had a sclerotic lesion in the same exact area, the iliac. They said it could be mets or it could be a bone island. There was no way of knowing without doing a bone biopsy. I did, in fact, have a biopsy and it WAS a bone island. Waiting for those bone biopsy results was the scariest time of my life. It sounds like they think yours is a bone island, but they have to consider mets (even if it's a tiny chance) with our BC diagnosis.

I just wanted to give you a good story and say that my bone island turned out to be a bone island :)

Just sending support Joy! I've read a few other stories like kathabus's on here where issues turn out to be bone islands - benign...
