Had biopsy today - should I feel more hopeful?
Had my biopsy today for a BIRADS 4B for a 4mm oval mass of higher density in the area of my previous cancer. The radiologist was lovely and explained that this area has been there for several years but looks more prominent now but that may be because of breast changes. She said she felt it was a low suspicion of a malignancy.
I am a little confused in the fact that if it was a low suspicion why would it be categorized as a 4B? Also if this area has been here for a while should I be concerned nothing has ever been mentioned before or feel more hopeful? On the first sample she said that it contained carbon which may be the cause of the problem. Does anyone have any experience of this?
Any insights would be so appreciated.
I should have results in 2 weeks, one part of me wants to know now, another part of me thinks ignorance is bliss!

I do not have experience with this. Also not sure why 4b vs 4a... Hopefully her belief there is little or not worry is correct. I would say that if it does come back cancerous 4 mm is tiny even after being there for some years. I would hold onto her words and the very small size while waiting for actual results. As far as you not knowing it's there I agree with your discontent about that. I experience this quite a bit with various health things and I do not like it at all. I think they don't want us worrying about things they do not believe are concerning even if yet, etc. though this has happened enough to me that I feel excluded from my care oftentimes.... Other than communicating with providers about your desire to be included and feeling left out/not included when..... I'm not sure what else to say.... Please let us know when you get results... Sending out positive vibes!

Thanks for your reply. Definitely need all the positive vibes I can get so I appreciate you sending me those. Will definitely update on here once I have the results.

It could be a result of you having had cancer before is upping the concern level--like they want to be more cautious.

I just wanted to come and update everyone on my results. My results are benign!! I am shaking and crying with relief.
It was scar tissue and an area of carbon from my previous markings that also may have caused the issue. My BIRADS was 4B.
I hope this gives youhope. Having had breast cancer 5 years ago and it being in the same area I was thinking the worst. I was wrong. I know it's hard not to go to the worst case scenario as I do it frequently but hold onto my story and know that it is not always cancer.
Hope and peace to you all. -
