Hi everyone!

Had my first mammogram at 41 last week. The findings were:

***

Bilateral Digital Screening Mammogram with Computer-Aided Detection with
Tomosynthesis 06/04/2021

FILMS COMPARED

This is the patient's baseline study.

BILATERAL MAMMOGRAM FINDINGS

There are scattered areas of fibroglandular density.

There is a focal asymmetry in the posterior upper outer region of the left
breast.

The right breast appears unremarkable.

****

I am scared out of mind but have read many similar posts on here where things turned out okay. I have a lot of medical anxiety as my daughter was born with a heart condition and has had to have two heart surgeries. She is great now but the ptsd is real. Any thoughts, shared experiences, insights would be so helpful!

Did the schedule your next testing? I am in the same boat right now to a T. I have my next test in a couple weeks (june 22) for a focal asymmetry 1.2 cm. I have a lot of medical anxiety as well. I am just trying not to think about it until I have to. I have five kids so I am plenty busy, but at work it is especially hard to turn off. My mind goes everywhere. I will keep you in my thoughts and hope it is all well.

Hi! I’m sorry you’re in this boat, too. It’s hard. Yes, I am scheduled for this coming Monday morning for a follow up mammogram and ultrasound. I will update here when I know something. I read another poster with medical anxiety say she allows herself 10 minutes to google and worry a day and I thought that was good advice. My googling is a bit out of control right now. Sending you lots and lots of good thoughts for a great outcome!

Just want to welcome you! Asymmetry can turn out to be a positioning issue or a benign condition vs. an actual medical problem so I hope that is the case for you. I really liked the suggestion too about Googling limit of 10 minutes per day so if you must follow that post's suggestions... Meanwhile do what you can to also distract while you're waiting for follow-up.... check out some of the other forums/threads as well such as the cats, dog, humor/games, exercise, etc.... lighter things..... Please let us know how things go....

Thank you, Livin! I’m trying to not google and just focus on other things. Watching tv and playing Candy Crush haha. I will definitely update this post after my appointment on Monday. Seeing positive updates on similar posts has really helped me.

Just wanted to update my post: I had a diagnostic mammogram on my left breast and then an ultrasound this morning. The focal asymmetry ended up being b9; the report read:

“There is a focal asymmetry in the posterior region of the left breast upper outer quadrant. Targeted ultrasound of the upper outer left breast demonstrates an island of fibroglandular tissue at 1 o'clock located 7 centimeters from the nipple, correlating with the focal asymmetry.“

It was explained to me that it was just an area of my breast that is more dense than other areas. I don’t have to go back for a year.

I hope this update helps anyone else who got a similar call back from their mammogram. It is terrifying but know that more likely than not, you’ll be okay.
