More than two weeks, still no results for breast biopsy!
Hello everyone.
My mom had a biopsy more than two weeks ago and they told her the results are still not ready. She had a tru cut biopsy with 7 samples taken (I have no idea what this means).
How long does this usually take? They told her 10 days and the lady who had a biopsy the same day as my mom already got her results (unfortunately, she has ductal carcinoma).
Is this normal? What could this mean? Why the delay... Thanks everyone

Hi Heklica,
The waiting is the worst! I think it may actually be good when they take multiple samples as it reduces the need to have anything else biopsied for further examination. I wanted my radiologist to take multiple samples so they would have everything they need and not bother me again for another. I don't think the wait is due to anything other than lab time turnarounds, especially when multiple samples are being done.
Looking back, what I would do differently while waiting is to have immediately started drinking more water (half my body weight in ounces), getting all my vitamins and minerals in order (I was super low on Vit. D and iodine which is very common with bc), eating only healthy (low carbs, low sugar) and taking digestive enzymes if blood type A. I found a great integrative MD who has helped me boost my immune system and cellular function tremendously which is helping me beat the bc. I've learned so much from her.
Best of all, even if the results come back negative as I pray they will, your mom can be in even better health and stronger immune system than before.
So just my personal encouragement.. I would find a great local integrative MD to help boost her immune system and cellular function, no matter the results of the biopsy. The website ACAM.org lists a lot of great integrative MDs.
Blessings,
Esther

Helica--I was biopsied and got the results on the same day, but others report having long wait times. Has your mother called the doctor's office to ask about her results?
-
That does seem too long. I waited about 6 days.... 10 days is often the standard for biopsies, odd kinds of blood work etc. and often those are back before then or soon after....

I have no idea what is going on. She called they said it wasn't ready. They said to call tomorrow if they are still not ready... We are fearing the worst situation. That it might be advanced. I have no idea if that affects time.

I had a biopsy on October 26th and got the results from my family doctor on November 7th. At my biopsy I was given an appointment with the surgeon on November 14th but they said my GP would have the results in a week if I preferred to find out before the 14th. Not sure that was the best idea, as my doctor seemed confounded by the results. My breast surgeon was able to give me lots of clarification and had a very positive attitude about treatment etc.

Hi--Sorry for your long wait. Hopefully you will hear something tomorrow!
Generally speaking.... "advanced" with breast cancer means that it spread to your lungs, liver, brain or bones. That is not information that you get back from a breast biopsy.
At this point they are just looking at the samples from the breast (if I understood that correctly) and determining if they are cancerous....and if so....what type of breast cancer it is. So don't worry about the wait being related to it being advanced or not. It truly could be an innocent (and annoying) wait. Please keep us posted!
