am triple negative and have completed bilateral mastectomy, chemo, radiation and now under xeloda. are atypical cells present from endobronchial washing an indication that there is high probability of cancer? my nodules are too small to do a biopsy

    Hi Beary,

I see that nobody replied to you, hopefully this will bump your post up for better visibility. I am not a doctor, but atypical cells *could*, *maybe* be a sign of cancer, but may very well not be. Cells can be atypical for a lot of reasons, even a simple viral infection.

Can I ask why the washing was ordered? You mention nodules, are these in your lungs? Do they light up on PET?

    Cheers,

    Andy

Hi Andy, thanks for your reply. i had the washing bec. the chest CT scan in May noted progression in size and increase in number of nodules. Also noted multifocal ground glass opacities. Dr. wanted to determine if it's TB, pneumonia, or metastasis. TB result came out negative and detected acinotebacter calcoaceticus-baumannii complex bacteria but am asymptomatic. After 3 months, i had my pet ct-scan this week. This time, result noted interval demonstration of hypermetabolic airspace opacity. Am seeing my dr next week to understand what it means.

I do hope it doesn't turn out to be anything bad. Good luck.
