ER/PR Positive BC To Triple Negative after 8 years

I read on these boards, many years back how breast cancer can and does change properties. I have kept this in the back of my mind so when my BC stopped responding to at least 6 different treatments within just a few years, I had a biopsy that confirmed my cancer Stage IV is now Triple Negative. That explains why my other treatments stopped working. I'm currently on Trodelvy (sacituzumab govitecan-hziy).

So, for all you long-term survivors who have many years with ER/PR Positive but not getting response from your treatments, PLEASE get a biopsy to check your hormone status. Who knows?

Thanks -

    Hey Amy,

I'm not sure why you put this under DCIS. I was originally diagnosed in 2013 with IDC stage 3C, grade 2. It was highly ER+, highly PR+, and HER-.

I was diagnosed with bone mets in 2019 that was highly ER+, PR-, and HER-. CT scans did show an enlarged left ovary at this time. US called it consistent with a hemorrhagic cyst.

In March of this year a CT scan showed growth and other changes to the left ovary. I had surgery to remove tubes, ovaries, and uterus. Pathology showed bc mets ER-, moderately PR+, HER equivocal by IHC (negative by FISH). Pelvic washings also positive for bc mets.

My primary onc said this happens about 20% of the time. My study onc said about 10%.

    Amy,

Same thing happened to me. It was 6-7 years for me switching from primary tumors ER/PR + to TN in liver. In a strange way it's good to know it happens to someone else. ??

I hope you are responding well to treatments.

    Best,

    Lynn

    Hi Lynn,

You're right, it's good to know others have experienced the same thing. However, I thought it was much more common. I hope you're doing well on your treatment.

    Amy
