Any surgeon recommendation at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia?

I just got news today from my radiologist that I have breast cancer and would likely need a mastectomy. I think the next step is to find a surgeon. I live in New York City.

My primary care physician is at Mount Sinai, but I would like to be treated at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia. (My heath insurance will cover all treatment costs at NY-Presbyterian through their Centers of Excellence in Cancer program. Mount Sinai is not in that program, but NY-Presbyterian is.)

Might anyone have a recommendation for a good surgeon at NY-Presbyterian?

Did you mean NY Presbyterian/Weil Cornell? If yes, then Rache Simmons was my breast surgeon - she did a skin / nipple sparing BMX and David Otterburn was my Ps and did my immediate DIEP recon. I was very pleased with both. If you’re considering implants or no recon/aesthetic closure I can’t speak to that obviously but am sure Rache Simmons will have info on who they have in PS with expertise in those procedures

Hi, Abigail. I'm thinking of NY Presbyterian/Columbia, which is up at 168th St. on the West Side. The Cornell campus is at 68th and York, on the East Side. For various reasons, the west side Columbia campus works better for me. But thank you for replying, and for the recommendation!

And for anyone else who sees this post and is thinking about NY Presbyterian/Cornell, I can recommend that hospital -- both my kids were born there, a few decades ago!

Hi I had all my treatment at NY Presbyterian 6 years ago and was very happy with it. My breast surgeon is no longer there but all in the group seemed good. My plastic surgeon was Christine Rohde. She did direct to implant reconstruction on me. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
