My mother diagnosed with stage 4 Breast cancer Grade 3 Her2+
Hi All,
I was living in US from last 2 years when I can to know this news of my mother's MBC stage 4 , grade 3 ,her2+ cancer in late march 2021, I need to understand what option do I have.
My mother lives in India and I am currently with her. I need to know if there is some new experimental treatment available in US ? how I can avail ? those treatments.
I will be very grateful if anyone has any good suggestions for me.

for HER2 positive, her first line of treatment in the USA would be a chemo (usually a taxane) plus Herceptin and Perjeta. Is she receiving that in India

Thanks for response ,Yes she is getting this.
what's the next step in the process ?

Hello, Vinay. I would expect your mom to have regular blood tests to see how her body is handling treatment, and a scan every few months to see how the treatment is working. If there if progression (more cancer) then a change of treatment.
If you want to see the treatment guidelines for the USA, they can be found here. There are versions for patients and versions for physicians:
https://www.nccn.org/guidelines/guidelines-detail?category=1&id=1419
If you would like a thoroughly researched guide to treatment options, there is a great book called The Insider's Guide to Metastatic Breast Cancer, available at the usual online store. Or download a PDF here:
https://www.mbcalliance.org/the-insiders-guide-to-metastatic-breast-cancer
And of course there is a lot of info here on BCO.
How is your mom doing, how is she feeling? Where are the mets? Are you two able to do some enjoyable things like walking in a pretty place, playing music or games, etc?

vinay13, there are several drugs for HER2+ but “next steps” may be farther off than you think, lots of women do well on Herceptin for years before the next step. Personally, I’d focus on getting through the emotional parts of the next few months and you and your mom should find a sort of balance soon.
