Hello, this July I will be a 16 year TNBC breast cancer survivor. I had a double mastectomy back then and the breast that I had first had a lumpectomy on before the double mastectomy I had radiation on. Well I am pretty sure it has capsular contracture and hurts. It looks smaller too. I was told that was a risk.

My question is out of the other options what is the best one? Idon’t think I would do the DIEP one because sounds like a longer recovery. But should I try another implant or maybe do a tram flap? A tummy tuck would be welcome. I wish they would come up with a better nipple reconstruction. It looks ok but wish it was more realistic looking.

Regarding nipple reconstruction, have you considered the 3-D tattoos? They are awesome. This is where I went and I highly recommend Vinnie: http://www.vinniemyersteam.com/

I just had a 2nd reconstruction 6 years after my first. I have sub-pectoral implants that were shifting majorly to the outside, not quite capsular constriction but was having discomfort and anytime I moved my pecs the implants would constrict. Anyway, I went to PS asking about the DIEP, he recommended against it and I opted for removing my implants, putting my pecs back where they belong and then doing a pre-pectoral placements with alloderm. I’m just about 3.5 weeks out of recovery. Overall they look much better, and I know when I heal up will feel better.

I'm in the same boat pas48...I've had my under the muscle implants for ten years and am ready for a change. I was also told that DIEP wasn't an ideal choice for me and then learned about top of the muscle reconstruction. @Otterpup, did you have radiation? I just had a consult with a second PS and she doesn't want to put anything on top bc of radiation history. How are you feeling? Do you notice a difference?

    Wishing y'all well!
