Biopsy tested +ve for HER2.

Options

Hi All,

If a biopsy sample from Breast is tested positive for HER2 protein. The disease that is spread to other Body parts is assumed to be tested positive for the same type?, or is it mandatory that other body parts samples should also be tested at one point of time?

Thanks All.

I do not know if it is mandatory or always necessary but I believe the MO often does order a biopsy to confirm that what is seen on scans is actually cancer. And at the time, the pathologist also tests for the ER/PR/HER2 status, of the metastatic tumor.

It will also depend on how accessible the mets are, in other words is it even possible to safelyget a sample
