edited May 2021 in Waiting for Test Results

Hi all, after reading lots of posts on here I plucked up the courage to ask you all for a little reassurance. I’m 30 (UK) and found a lump/thickening, felt like a flat walnut, at 12:00 on right breast on April 9th. I went to see my GP 2 weeks later who referred me to the breast clinic. I was then seen exactly 2 weeks after at the breast clinic where I had an examination, an ultrasound and an ultrasound guided core biopsy (x2) I also had a marker placed inside. I had literally no words from my radiographer, other than what he was doing (and I was too scared to ask why). Then I went back to talk with the consultant who said “clinically” a lot, and “borderline”. I didn’t really follow what she was saying. I asked if she thought it was cancerous and she said maybe, maybe maybe. I was sort of hoping for some indication either way, but have come from the appointment still feeling worried and scared. I was given a number for some breast care nurses but I haven’t had the time to call (I work nights for the NHS).

I’m just not really sure what to think. I was made an appointment for the 27th of may to discuss results, but 17 days between biopsy and results seems an awful long time.

Thanks for reading :)

Im not sure how long it usually takes for results in the UK. Waiting really stinks, Radiographers aren't supposed to comment one way or the other so definitely don't read anything into it. I'm sorry you are having a very stressful waiting time. I could just be that the mass looked a little funky but the pathology will show it's benign. It is great they got you right into the breast clinic.

Nerdie just wanted to say ugh the waiting is awful, we know. Try your best to distract yourself and not worry too much until you have definitive news to worry over. I also know that is much easier said than done. I, too went through an excisional biopsy at your age and even with all the medical professionals telling me odds were better because of youth well it didn't change my brain behavior much. Bravo to you for doing your breast checks, and for following up to get further information. So glad you have received careful care. Sending prayers up for a benign finding.

Welcome Nerdie - that is such a long wait though may be normal for the UK as 2019 said, esp. these days (pandemic). Yes, waiting really stinks... I agree with Rah on keeping yourself busy, distracted during the next 2 weeks for sure.... Please let us know once you hear something.... gentle hugs sent your way...

Just wanted to pop on and update you, I have invasive ductal carcinoma, oestrogen positive, grade 3, awaiting staging. Likely will be having surgery, chemo and radio. Will know more in two weeks after some more imaging and testing. Bloody Nora!

Hi Nerdie, sorry that you've received this very sucky news. Hang in there - it gets better once you get your treatment plan in place and get started. This early period of sitting around waiting for something to start is the worst. So just know it gets better...
