Follow up us/mammo tomorrow
Had my annual mammo this morning and received a call back. Thankfully they were able to get me in right away tomorrow morning for an ultrasound. Spoke to my oncologist and they are seeing a change in the tissue in one area on my left side. I am 4 yrs out from breast cancer on the right side. Any insight or reassurance would be appreciated. Also would line to add I did have my 2nd covid vacine on March 31st. So 5 wks ago.
Below is part of my report from this morning
EXAM: MAMMOGRAM TOMO DIGITAL SCREENING BIL
INDICATION: ICD-10 C50.911 Malignant neoplasm of right breast in female, estrogen receptor positive, unspecified site of breast
ICD-10 Z17.0 Malignant neoplasm of right breast in female, estrogen receptor positive, unspecified site of breast
COMPARISON(S): Multiple prior exams were compared including MRI 10/18/2019.
TECHNIQUE: Bilateral CC and MLO digital tomosynthesis was done in addition to routine imaging. Interpretation is made with the benefit of Computer Aided Detection.
DENSITY: The breasts are extremely dense, which lowers the sensitivity of mammography.
FINDINGS: Asymmetry in the posterior depth upper left breast is indeterminate. No additional suspicious masses, grouped calcifications or architectural distortions are identified in either breast. Posttherapy related to change right breast.
IMPRESSION: Indeterminate left posterior depth upper left breast asymmetry without discrete benign intramammary lymph node or correlate on prior MRI.
MANAGEMENT: Targeted ultrasound is recommended. Diagnostic mammography may be considered if sonographic correlate is not identified.
ACR BI-RADS CATEGORY: 0 - Incomplete - Need Additional Imaging Evaluation

Did you get the vaccine in your left arm? Glad you got in so fast for an ultrasound and that will tell you more. Good luck

runnermum:
I had cancer in 2017 too. And I have/had extremely dense breast tissue like you apparently have per the report you listed above. I'm not a radiologist so can't give comments regarding the report. But I'd say they should know a lot more when you have your ultrasound appt I think you said that's tomorrow. Ultrasound saw my breast cancer. They didn't see it on mammo the first time I had it. Keep us posted ok? I’m here for support if you want to chat
Hope all goes well and it's not cancer💕💐

Runnermum your report lists your breast tissue as very dense. Is there any discussion of another MRI? I see you had your last one in 2019. I hope you push for that imaging given your density.

I agree with rah. With extreme density a mri would be a good diagnostic. Ultrasound doesn’t always see stuff.

Had follow up U/S and mammo this morning. Everything came back clean. Radiologist was extremely confident we had good images and nothing was there. 😃
RE MRI's: I had already planned on talking to my oncologist regarding starting MRIs again at my 6m checkup the end of this month. My surgeon had been ordering 1 MRI every year, 6months after my annual mammo. I was released from surgeons care at the beginning of 2020 which is why my last MRI was Oct 2019. 2020 was first year without one. My oncologist feels that because they are so sensitive, they pickup anything and everything they result in extra scans, biopsies, radiation exposure and worry\stress. I do agree with him as I have had to go thru MRI biopsy when something was found on MRI but not mammo or ultrasound. It was negative. I spoke to my U/S tech this morning. She agrees with me that because of my dense tissue, an MRI would be better for me but she also agrees with my oncologist, they can cause extra tests, stress and worry and radiation exposure. When I talked to my mammo tech this morning, she assured me she did get good images today. and boy did she compress my breast this morning, to the point I could hardly take a breath. But yes I did feel better those years I was getting an MRI and mammo and right now mammograms are causing extra tests because they aren't always getting good images either. . So it will be a good conversation to have and I may need to put my foot down with him! 😃

Runnermom so happy to hear you had good clean imaging results. Glad also that you will continue to have the conversation about what imaging protocol will work best for you with your doctors. It is always a balance, especially with tests such as MRI that have higher levels of radiation. I don't think there is any one answer on this, only one that works for each individual and their personal risks.

Glad all came out all right for you runnermum!

Runnermum: glad all went well! Have a wonderful weekend!
