High AST/ALT Levels
There doesn't seem to be any active threads for this topic, so I thought I'd start my own. I got some bloodwork done today for an appointment I have with my MO next week. My last bloodwork was done at the end of January. I've been on Tamoxifen since the beginning of December (4 1/2 months) and have been getting Lupron injections since the beginning of February (2 1/2 months). Today my ALT was 192 and my AST was 120. They were both 27 back in Janaury. That familiar knot is forming in my stomach again. The one that I walked around with for weeks last summer/fall as I was going through mammos, ultrasounds, MRIs and biopsies. From what I'm reading on here, I'm wondering perhaps this could be fatty liver? Can that happen that quickly being on Tamoxifen? What else can elevate these numbers? I don't drink at all, have a healthy BMI, barely any refined sugar...but nervous and stressed

Mama, I don't have answers for you. Of course you'll see the MO next week, which is good. You might call or message in and say you noted the higher numbers, and is there any other testing they want done before your appointment?
What I read is that most changes are mild and temporary. I don't know what numbers those refer to, but I hope that's the case for you.

Thanks MountainMia...I messaged my MO today and he called me this afternoon to say he's concerned that there is inflammation in my liver. He asked if I'm taking any other meds or if anything changed...nope and nothing has. So he wants me to repeat my bloodwork again on Monday, so he'll have it for our appointment on Tuesday and then we can figure out the plan. Sigh...I'm worried, hopefully for no reason though. My head is pounding from the stress and I don't even want to take Tylenol or anything for fear it will further aggravate my liver...sigh.

Thanks for checking in. I'm glad you contacted him and he's got it in view now for next week. As to the headache, an ibuprofen might be okay. It has more affect on kidney than liver...
I had slightly elevated ALT in January. My PCP and I agreed to a 3-month follow-up, which is next week. Then I see the BS a week later, and she can follow-up if needed. My plan is like yours -- if the number is high again (and mine was barely out of range,) I'll contact that office and see if there is anything else they need before my appt.
Feel free to message me or otherwise just check in here with concerns or stresses or news.

I just had to stop taking Tamoxifen because of fatty liver. I have NASH which is a step above fatty liver and have permanent scarring from it. I was on Tamoxifen for 3 1/2 year. I would request that your oncologist do a CAT scan of your abdomen. That is how they caught it after my liver enzymes came back high. I then had a special liver ultrasound. My enzymes dropped a couple of months after stopping Tamoxifen and starting the Mediterranean diet. I just tried ovarian suppression so I could change meds but had a horrible issue with blood pressure pressure on Zoladex. I’m on a 3 month break before we decide what to try next. Best of luck to you. Please make sure you follow up with it.
