Anti anxiety medication

Anxiety is not foreign to us. After one year of treatment and scans every two months, always a trigger for anxiety, I requested an anxiety prescription assuming I would get a drug I could pop in my mouth and get relief until my anxiety calmed down. Instead I am on a daily dose of Escitalopram. I don't really want another daily drug to take. I am not depressed I do not need my serotonin tweaked permanently which I think this is what escitalopram does. Any thoughts or suggestions of another drug. My oncologist requested I get theanxiety prescription from my GP and I wonder if she chose correctly

hoisholt, I'm not stage IV, but my daughter was on lexapro (Escitalopram). It was given for panic attacks. It is a strong med so you need to start at a low dose then be reevaluated. Doctors don't like to give you xanax, ativan, valium, or klonopin routinely because it is habit forming. You should be able to get a script for 3- 5 tablets. Maybe, your GP didn't understand what you needed it for. If you didn't see her in person send her an email explaining why. If you are on a low, steady dose of lexapro she might have felt it would take the edge off. Best wishes.

    Hi,

I got a prescription Atavan (lorezepam) for anxiety. I used to have anxiety attacks in my sleep so I take it before bed especially when I am anxious. It works great and no side effects. You don't have to take it every day, but just when you feel you need it.

    Take care,

    Nancy

My onc gave me a rx for Ativan. Xanax would work as well for a quick acting anti anxiety . They are addictive or can be so it's not something to take daily (like Zoloft for example ). I needed it when I was having biopsies for my now known dx as stage iv - first biopsy was inconclusive (not enough sample)and the waiting for the second biopsy and results were just awful . I would ask your GP who should not have an issue giving you this rx .
