Waiting for ultrasound guided biopsy second one
Hi everyone! I am new here and so worried. I know everyone has their own experiences and no one is the same but any thoughts, advice or anything is appreciated. I am 38 years old. Last year I noticed a bump which is a palpable lump. First thing done was a needle aspiration followed by mammogram and sonogram and nothing showed up. On my followup appointment three months later we decided to do an ultrasound guided biopsy and turned out to be a Fibr. Fast forward to this year... I just went for my mammogram and ultrasound (my doctor wanted to make sure everything is ok because my lump is still there). The radiologist came in and decided to take more ultrasound pictures herself. She recommended an ultrasound guided biopsy Again!!?? Now I'm worried what went from BIRADS 2 to now a BIRADS 4A which I understand is very small percentage but oh my goodness I can't help but be nervous. Anyone have any thoughts or experienced this? I appreciate any feedback thanks so much

Welcome susie! I'm glad you are aware of low risk/percentage of cancer with Birads4a.... Hold onto that while you wait... My bet is you all have been dealing with this area for a time now and they just want to be able to label it for what it is... not that they are worried it is cancer. I had an area on my right breast watched for a time before they finally wanted to do the first stereotactic biopsy so they knew for sure what it was ... fibroadenoma. Then as they saw a similar area later they did not biopsy b/c it looked similar and they knew what it was.... I hope that is true for you as well! Please let us know....

Hi LivinLife! Thank you so much for sharing and giving me some positive thoughts. Thats what the BS told me, its just a fibroadenoma. I am just a little bummed I have to do another needle biopsy which isn't the worst thing in the world. My nerves get the best of me and just want to get it over with. The hardest is the waiting. This was encouraging and I thank you.. Will definitely update hopefully next week

Remember that if they want to biopsy it, they *have* to label it birads 4 so that insurance will cover it. Birads 4a is the absolutest lowest they could rate it and still biopsy it.
I think you are good to try to think of this as a better safe than sorry, get this categorized and properly named and filed so you never have to worry about it in future screening!

Thanks so much Salamandra! Yes I've read what the label Birads 4A and how they biopsy because its a "4" it's just so weird thinking back I had a Birads 2 and they still biopsied it. But totally understandable that they need to make sure and hopefully it's again a Fibroadenoma. Thanks so much for your feedback

Hi everyone! Just wanted to give an update.... got my results back and thank goodness it's benign... Fibrocystic breast change she called it. I hope this post helps others. Always be aware of your body...its super important to get any lump checked out and most of the time it is benign. Getting a ultrasound core needle biopsy may sound scary, being my second time it went smoothly and painlessly, the only thing was I felt uncomfortable a little after and went away by night, nothing I even needed medication for. I don't regret it for a second. Anyone who has doubts or are worried, I get it, a lot of us get it but our minds are so strong. It definitely gets the better of us but just try as best to keep positive and take every step a day at a time. Live in the moment, we cant change the past, we cant control what happens in the future , we do have now. So after I posted my first message I was going through so many emotions. Everyone here was so helpful. I stopped worrying and put alot of positive thoughts in my head. I hope that anyone going through this can find some comfort. May you all hear only positive news! May any questions you have be answered. Sending lots of positive energy to everyone. Thank you to all who have answered it meant so much
