Pleural effusion

Hi everyone. I was just diagnosed on March 18 with Level 3 DCIS. My BS suggested a mastectomy and I had an MRI on April 1. The results posted yesterday (Friday) but I haven’t talked to my BS. It doesn’t seem that there are any more new findings in my results but it did say EXTRAMAMNERY Small right pleural effusion. Of course I went down the google rabbit hole and now having anxiety attacks after reading about it. Has anyone had that come back in their breast mri report?

Welcome Cooper4! I do not know about the extra-mammary..... As far as the pleural effusion I would think that is just an incidental finding - not related to breast cancer or DCIS? If it's just a small amount likely no worry though I would still talk to your PCP/GP about that. I've had this in the past on a couple of different scans. Nothing needed to be done about it. I hope that's true in your case as well. Best with your appointment/conversation with BS! Please let us know how things go and when you get a plan.... Sounds like you're set with MX or are you still considering options?

Hi Cooper4 -- I too have a small pleural effusion although mine is on the left side. It was called out in my breast MRI in 2019 after I was diagnosed and my radiology oncologist (who is very thorough) reviewed all my records and as it turns out, I've that that dinky thing since at least 2005. She said that may just be situation normal for me.

But like you, I was sure startled by that finding. But here it is, three years later and yes my little buddy is still with me but also is still not affecting me in any way, shape or form.
