Anyone take a vaccine and a mammogram close together?
The health dept. just sent me an email to verify need of people on the list needing first dose. Submitted name and phone number and says I'll be contacted soon to schedule an appointment. I'm not expecting it too soon, but I do have a mammo (left side only) on Apr 15th.
Should I just roll with whatever happens?
Or, if vaccine call comes before mammo, just don't answer and schedule after the test? They say they'll keep calling up to 3 times.
I'm already doing mammo/mri;s every 6 mos, as having birads 3, I don't need anything else showing up. However, I want my turn too!!
It would really suck to skip a chance (IF it comes 1st) and then catch covid19!!!!

In my county they want you to wait 4-6 weeks after the second dose before getting a mammo. So that would put yours off potentially 2-3 months (1 month from first to second shot and then 4-6 weeks after second shot).
Im not sure i would do that if your appt is so close. Hopefully you can get one on the 16th... -
Yes, I did. I had my first Pfizer vaccine and then 2 weeks later had my annual mammogram (my first 3D). This was back in February before I had heard anything about the vaccine possibly having an effect on the appearance of the lymph nodes on the test. The technician asked if I had recently had a Covid vaccine and she noted it on my chart. I worried that something suspicious would show up but thankfully all was normal. I was able to read my report online a couple of days later and was very relieved. Best wishes!

Hi ctmbsikia, I would get the vaccine and reschedule your mammogram appointment. I had the Moderna vaccine yesterday, they called me after lunch. The left side of my chest feels heavy. Other than a sore right arm I don't have any other issues and go back the 15th for my second injection. They told me not to schedule a mammogram for 4-6 weeks. You need 24 hours to reschedule so you would probably be able to wait until the last minute.

You might want to call the breast center and see what they suggest. Maybe they can move up the appointment so you can have mammogram done before you get the shot, or see if the shot in your right arm would be a good choice since your mammo is scheduled for the left side only. Sounds like you'd want the shot as soon as available.

Turns out my 1st dose is Monday the 5th, mammo is on the 15th, BS appt is the 19th, 2nd dose will be after on May 3rd. I think I'll be OK going between doses. I'll make sure they jab my right side. The BS appt was made back in January. Would put me out months to reschedule. Thanks for the replies and glad to see someone did go for imaging without issue.

ctmbsikia, glad you can move ahead with all your appointments. I heard recently that by moving the arm in the hour after the shot it will reduce muscle soreness, I wonder if that would affect the lymph system too and prevent swelling of lymph nodes? Wouldn't hurt to take a walk or keep moving after your first shot, and be sure to mention that you have had a shot to the tech doing the mammo. All the best!
