Hi there,

I was diagnosed two weeks ago with LCIS and ILC. I'm currently waiting on a surgical date. I'm the first of my friends to go through this, so I'm feeling weirdly lonely. The waiting is hard.

Also, it appears that breast cancer runs in my family...but no one wants to talk about it and no one else has had genetic testing as far as I can see. *sigh* I wish that my grandparents' and parents' generations had been more open and inquisitive and sharing of information. I feel like I'm flying blind and it didn't have to be this way.

Big hugs--there can definitely be weird shame around cancer - esp. "female" cancers. You are not alone!

Saltmarsh, familial or genetic causes are the exception rather than the rule. None of my family had genetic testing, but it was still done on me. In spite of both parents, a grandmother, and an aunt all having had the same cancers I've had, none of genetic markers they test for showed a connection.
