Biopsy Thursday-
Hello everyone. I went in for mammo & us on 3/4 for pain on/under right breast. They performed mammo and then called me back for more images including magnified, then one more, followed by US. I was so thankful where I go the Dr gives you your results before you leave! She saw 3 new areas of concern as compared to my 2017 mammo & us. So, now I have 3 stereotactic biopsies scheduled for this Thursday. I am worried but trying to keep busy and not let it consume my thoughts. The dr told me 2/3 chance benign and 1/3 chance malignant. If malignant, she said she believed it would be DCIS.
My rad report reads:
R breast- 9:00 position, 9cm from nipple, linearly oriented grouped calcifications have developed. These calcifications occupy a region that measures 1.9cm. No associated mass or distortion.
L breast- 3:00 location,6cm from the nipple, linearly oriented, grouped calcifications have developed. These calcifications occupy a region that measures 1.2cm. No associated mass or distortion.
A second group of micro-calcifications is also developed left breast at central 1:00 position, 5 cm from the nipple. This group of micro-calcifications occupied a region that measure 7mm in greatest dimension. No associated mass or distortion.
Impression: interval change in grouped micro-calcifications including new grouped micro-calcifications in the lateral right breast and 2 groups of new calcifications in the lateral left breast. These calcification are indeterminate.
Recommendation:
Tissue diagnosis to exclude malignancy
BI-RADS Category 4: Suspicious

Stephanie, welcome!
Calcifications are very common and while most calcs are harmless, yes, calcifications certainly can be DCIS; the linear calcs would be more suspicious than the grouped. The good news from the imaging report is that there is associated mass or distortion with any of these calcifications. This makes it more likely that IF the result isn't benign, it will be DCIS. DCIS is Stage 0 breast cancer, and by some definitions, a pre-cancer.
Good luck with the biopsy on Thursday. Hopefully you do get a benign result.

Hi Stephrach, Sorry that you’re going through this. I’m glad you found this forum though, you can get good support here. We all agree that the waiting is so difficult! You are right to not let it consume your thoughts, worrying about it doesn’t change anything. I really hope that it’s benign! I too have had calcifications that were biopsied, 2 of the 3 times were benign and the second one was DCIS. Like Bessie said, DCIS is stage 0 and treatable. I will be thinking about you. Let us know how the biopsies go on Thursday and then once you get the results. In the meantime, do things you like that make you feel good. Staying busy is good right now. Hugs!

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers for today. I go in at 12. The doctor said that I should get results “in 2 working days”. So I am anticipating maybe Monday. So we wait just a little longer
