Can cancer worsen while waiting for results?

(I had posted this in the wrong topic before! I didn't know if I can move it, so sorry for posting this a second time somewhere else!)

Hi! I am actaully here to ask a question regarding my mother. The story is that she's been experiencing some breast cancer-related symptoms and noticed a lump forming under her armpit, and long story short she went to go get an ultrasound and that lump was actually not cancerous! However, in my mom's other breast that she actually had no concerns with, she was told that there is something going on in there that looks like cancer. The doctors told her that if it actually is cancer, stage 1 to 3 would be curable. She was also told she would be contacted within 3 weeks to get a biopsy done.

The thing is...I would just like to know if it's possible for the (hypothetical, hopefully) cancer to spread so fast that it becomes a stage 4? I'm very worried and paranoid about this and having trouble using logic / rational thought. I just keep worrying that in the time my mom will be waiting for a biopsy, it'll just get worse.

Breast cancer is rarely an emergency, really! Is it possible to experience metastasis in a few weeks? Well, I suppose that anything is possible but it is highly unlikely. There will be a lot to learn and many things that might cause worry but this is not one of those things. Many of us have gone weeks or even a couple of months before treatments start because there is often a lot to coordinate.

You might want to ask the mods to consolidate your topics into one so all responses can be in the same place. I am sure they would be happy to do it. All the best to your mom.

Ahh, I see! That's very reassuring to hear...thank you so much for answering Just gotta have positive energy while waiting, I suppose.
