Breast Cancer Concern Question

Hi! So, I'm not the one experiencing breast cancer concerns towards myself but actually my mother. The story is that she's been experiencing some breast cancer-related symptoms and noticed a lump forming under her armpit, and long story short she went to go get an ultrasound and that lump was actually not cancerous! However, in my mom's other breast that she actually had no concerns with, she was told that there is something going on in there that looks like cancer. The doctors told her that if it actually is cancer, stage 1 to 3 would be curable. She was also told she would be contacted within 3 weeks to get a biopsy done.

The thing is...I would just like to know if it's possible for the (hypothetical, hopefully) cancer to spread so fast that it becomes a stage 4? I'm very worried and paranoid about this and having trouble using logic / rational thought. I just keep worrying that in the time my mom will be waiting for a biopsy, it'll just get worse.

My apologies if this wasn't in the right forum, I didn't really know where else this could possibly go. I also have to apologize if I'm asking a really stupid question, but anything I google just wasn't helping me.

Edit: So, this probably should've gone into 'waiting for test results' but I have no idea if I can move it there

Hi Rosie, Your post is ok here. I am sorry you have this worry about your mom. It is really hard when you don't know what is going on. Many of us wait more than 3 weeks for biopsies. I found my lump June 15th and had surgery August 16th and my tumour had not grown.

It is hard to not worry though so try to find things to do for distract you until you know for sure. Take care of yourself.

Breast cancer isn’t super fast spreading. On the very unlikely chance that further testing did find she has cancer that has spread, it would have been there since before the ultrasound and not picked up by that kind of testing. I don’t mean to make you worry more, I just want you to know you are doing everything you can right now
