MRI Questions

I agree with MinusTwo, except that I would knock the Gyn off the list. From my years reading this site, I think lots of Gyns are no more knowledgable about breast conditions and interpreting breast imaging reports than PCPs. Of course there are some Gyns who are excellent, but for many, their expertise is below the belt.
I think you should see if you can speak to the Radiologist, to understand why a BI-RADs3 6-month follow-up is being recommended rather than a BI-RADs4 biopsy. I'm sure there is a reason for this based on the appearance of the non-mass enhancement, but it doesn't appear to be clear in the report. And if you can't reach the Radiologist, or for a 2nd opinion, I'd suggest either another breast radiologist or a breast surgeon. A radiologist would actually be best because interpreting imaging is their primary job.
Will your PCP refer you for the second opinion? I would think that would be necessary if there's any hope that your insurance will cover some or all of the cost. -
Thank you all for your responses! I’m grateful for the support.
The radiologist report comments on the mild to moderate background enhancement affecting the images. When I called to schedule my MRI they didn’t care where I was in my cycle. They just wanted to go with what was more convenient for them. Really? I am premenopausal... I think that matters, right? So I tried to get her to schedule around day 7-10, but I could only get in at day 14-15 of my cycle. I will request to speak with the radiologist. Also- they NEVER answer their phone. I have to go in person if I need anything done. I am definitely thinking a 2nd opinion is worth doing. My pcp might be able to refer me, but my insurance won’t cover (super high deductible ).
Thank you again for taking the time to posthere. 😊

Hiya,
Just want to wish you good luck and share this website: https://sharsheret.org/
They connected me to a social worker who helped me both with logistics and with some emotional aspects also. The social workers can also help find financial help and resources for you. It's a Jewish organization but it serves everyone. (I know there are other orgs like this out there, but this is the one I can personally ercommend).

Wanderinggypsy I would get a second opinion if I were in your shoes. Sounds like you are really going through alot to try to get some answer to your results with the center who did the scan originally. Just my opinion. Hope you get it all figured out. We are here for support.

Thank you for your response. I called around yesterday and left messages- hoping to hear from someone today. A person really must be her/his own advocate! Wishing everyone well

Greetings everyone,
Still waiting for a second opinion appointment. Will keep everyone posted when it’s scheduled. Wishing everyone well

Hello all,
Finally got a second opinion. Another radiologist from a different breast center reviewed my case. Her report included some information not included in my original MRI report. Right breast shows two areas of non mass enhancement- clumped and intermixed cluster ring enhancement. This new radiologist could not give a Bi-Rads number because my cycle day was not included in the report and also because not all of the images were made available. Second opinion radiologist recommends short-term (6 month) follow-up MRI around cycle day 10. This makes more sense! Now I wait... 4 months to go before MRI follow-up appointment. I have no other choice than to wait. Just like EVERYONE on this site- I am not alone. Wishing you all well!

Thanks for the update! Waiting is the pits. I have a scan usually of some sort every 6 mo. Since I didn't have 'treatment' other than surgery that is my treatment to just be vigilant and have scan. So sorry you have to go through this! But we are here for support!

Well..... that is basically good news.... tho I hear you about more of the waiting..... I hope you can put this behind you after more settling into the new info. Then, if your like me, you'll start thinking about it more two weeks or so before your next MRI. Thanks for the update Wandering....
