I saw a breast specialist yesterday and she was phenomenal. She deals with all things breasts - from benign to not benign! She spent a lot of time with me and was able to express blood from my right nipple (which is the main reason why I made the appointment in the first place). She said that nipple discharge with confirmed blood should always be investigated and she would like a mammogram and targeted ultrasound and mentioned that it is very likely I will need a biopsy (but the type of biopsy that I need is TBD) and I might need an MRI if the mammogram is not conclusive. She said she was looking for a papilloma but did not see one and wants to investigate and get to the bottom of the blood being expressed from the nipple.

The script I was given says: “bloody right nipple discharge from a 2:00 duct orifice on the right nipple dilated debris-filled subareolar filled ducts without a definite intraductal mass. Incidental solid mass at 12:00 and 3 cm right breast. Targeted right ultrasound of previously biopsied fibroadenoma, 2 other solid breast masses, and any other areas as indicated by radiologist".

Thanks in advance for thoughts/suggestions re: upcoming appointments or why she is investigating so thoroughly for what didn't seem like a lot of blood from the nipple.

I had a papilloma that was not seen on a mammogram nor an ultrasound. It was only on the MRI. It's good to take a good look at everything with all the tools. I would be grateful that she is thoroughly looking everything over, which I am sure you are! Keep us posted!

Thank you so much! Your response was really helpful. I didn’t realize a papilloma can be so hard to see and might not appear on a mammogram. I will keep you posted!
