I now have IDC on top of DCIS.
Hi fellow pink sisters, I was first in these forums this past December, when a preliminary needle biopsy found DCIS in my left breast. Since then, I’ve had an MRI which led to one more biopsy (same breast) that has now found IDC in one of my lumps.
I have at least 4 lumps with DCIS spread out over the inner lower quadrant of my left breast, and will be having a staged delayed nipple-sparing single mastectomy, followed by TE and implant reconstruction.
This Friday (2/26) is the first surgery, where the lumps will be removed, and SNB and nipple devascularization done. From there I’ll find out whether the nipple is salvageable, and whether I’ll need any other course of treatment in addition to mastectomy and Tamoxifen.
The second surgery, mastectomy, is planned for 3/19.
Ugh.

Ammie, ah, I'm sorry about that. When a needle biopsy finds DCIS, there is always a chance that some IDC might be lurking too. In about 20% of cases, the diagnosis does turn out to be IDC.
Hopefully the amount of IDC found in your surgery pathology is small and your SNB is clear so that your treatment plan remains unchanged - MX and Tamoxifen.
Good luck with the surgery!

Ammie - here's hoping for minimal surgery

Ammie - sorry to hear that they found some IDC. The same thing happened to me. My DCIS had a nice bit of IDC hiding in it upon final pathology. I echo Beesie and MinusTwo, hoping that your nodes are clear and that your surgery goes very well.

Sorry to hear about the IDC! Best tomorrow with surgery!

Thank you MinusTwo, I sure hope so too. I love what you’ve chosen for your name handle, by the way. ♥️
