I had a mammogram last week - there was a suspicious finding in the left breast which is being biopsied on Tuesday. The evening after the mammogram, I noticed that I was sore, like the surface of the skin was sore. Now today, 6 days later, I have a good size rash under my right breast (the one with no findings on the mammogram). Has anyone ever had that happen? Thoughts on any possible explanations? This has never happened before. I’m wondering if the equipment was not cleaned/disinfected properly

Sounds plausible to me that you could have picked up an athletes foot typefungal infection or something from a poorly disinfected plate, or (especially if the plate was still damp from being wiped down) an allergic reaction to whatever disinfectant they used.

Although a fungal infection could happen, I think it is more likely you are reacting to what they wipe down the compression plates. Did you notice if she wiped down the different size plates if/when she changed them? Some of the disinfectants that are used now are really hard on the skin. I would be sure to clean with a mild soap & warm water. Pat dry the area & don't wear a bra unless you absolutely must. Show it to the Dr next Tues & get his/her opinion.

    Best of luck,

    Jane

The rash seems to be fading. I asked the doc about it today and they said it could have been the disinfectant. They wiped down and completely dried everything today and Ididn’t seem to have a reaction.
