Hello everyone,

I am so glad that I found a support group like this. I received my breast mri results last Thursday but don’t understand what it means. Surprisingly, the doctor that orders it haven’t reached out to me nor scheduled a follow-up appointment. I have made several attempts to call and email but no reply. What should I do? Below is my mri result. Thank you!

Result
MRI BREAST BILATERAL W WO CONTRAST

History
Abnormal breast tissue
Abnormal breast exam
Family medical history includes breast cancer in 2 relatives (aunt
(maternal) (age of onset: 39 deceased), great-grandmother (paternal) (comments:
menopausal)).

Films Compared
Compared to: 01/19/2021 US BREAST LIMITED RIGHT, 12/07/2020 US BREAST
LIMITED RIGHT, and 01/15/2019 US BREAST LIMITED LEFT. Prior mammogram
dated 04/24/2019.

Findings
The breasts have scattered fibroglandular tissue. The background
parenchymal enhancement is mild and symmetric.

Left breast:
There is no mass or suspicious enhancement to suggest malignancy.

There is no left axillary lymphadenopathy.

Right breast:
There is thickening of the skin of the nipple/areolar complex with
associated mild dermal enhancement which demonstrates slow immediate
kinetics and delayed persistent kinetics. Otherwise, there is no abnormal
enhancement in the right breast. There is no discrete right breast mass.

There is no axillary lymphadenopathy.

Impression
There is thickening of the skin of the right nipple/areolar complex with
associated mild enhancement but no discrete dermal mass or subareolar
mass.

There is no MR evidence of malignancy in the left breast.

BI-RADS® Category: 4 - Suspicious.

Recommendation
1. Biopsy of the skin thickening in the right nipple/areolar complex is
recommended.

2. Prior to the biopsy, a bilateral diagnostic mammogram is recommended
for complete assessment of each breast.

Hi there. So sorry you find yourself here with your recent report. I am not a medical person by any means, but it's saying they see some skin thickening around the nipple area of your right breast. There is no mass seen, so that's good. It's also birads 4 suspicious which is just that, suspicious as it has not been seen before. The odds of it being cancer are low. However, you still need a biopsy which sucks! I'm also surprised that they want another mammo, when you just recently had one if I'm reading that correctly. No matter, more pics the better. I believe you should be getting a call from your Doc, or from the place that took your imaging to set up the next appt. If you don't hear from them soon, keep calling or emailing. Let us know how it goes. Try to remember a birads 4 suspicious requiring a biopsy is almost always, ruling out cancer. Hopefully, this will be something benign. I hope that helps, but I know, scary and all of it sucks!!! We're here if you need us. Good luck.

Edited to say I read your recent comparisons wrong. That was an ultrasound not mammo. Sorry. Those reports said nothing?

Thank you for the quick reply! I had the 1st breast u/s done in December 2020 and it was a Category 3. The u/s tech asked the radiologist did I need a mammogram and she said no although there were an order placed for one. The 2nd breast u/s were done last month with the same Category 3. I was seen an PA during this time and then finally had saw the breast surgeon who ordered the breast mri and even then she didn't know for sure whether or not I could get one. I have an appointment with CTCA next Monday and I am hoping that I can get the answer I need. Thank you so much

BTW- The mammogram were done in 2019 on my left breast and was Categorized as 0. The two u/s and mri are for my right breast

Gonono83 it sounds like you have very careful conscientious doctors watching you. I am sorry you have to go through the anxiety of repeated imaging, then biopsy, but they are working to absolutely rule out any condition you have to address. Very glad you have found us and please keep us updated on how you are doing. Wishing you all the best.
