Pain on mastectomy area and upper arm

Options

Hello,

I am going to the doctor tmrw but I wanted to post this, as well. I had a left mastectomy in 2016 and a failed immediate reconstruction. It has been uneventful with no pain except dealing with the failed reconstruction, 4 1/2 years ago. Just lately the mastectomy area feels like it is burning right in the area that my nipple would be in, like it kind of burned with pagets of the nipple, I had. It also feels painful on the area nearer my left arm and the underlining lower area. I had the 1st covid vaccine, and they said your lymph nodes could swell a bit, but the shot was about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I do some physical work 5 days a week, but have been doing it a while and never had this. Has anyone had recurrences in their mastectomy area or symptoms of pain before in tgat area after 5 years?

Hi Gingermiss! I do not know about the recurrence in the area of mastectomy. I do still experience some pain in that area- sometimes burning and sometimes sharp -feels kind of like nerve regeneration to me. My surgery was in August though and I was told it would take me a year to fully heal - there are some visual areas of concern yet though mild.... The fact you've had no pain and now have pain is something to pay attention to though I'm not sure what that means for you. I really just wanted to check in with support. I'm hoping others will be able to offer more specific feedback for you as the day goes on.... I'm glad you have an appointment, which I believe is today since you posted "tmrw" yesterday... Please let us know what your doc says.....
