Hello all, looking for others experiencing similar diagnosis if there is anyone! In 2005 I had DCiS- treated with lumpectomy and rads. 2007 it came back, opted for mastectomy. 2014 I had some revision reconstruction. 2019 IDC one small area- wide excision and tamoxifen. Here we are 2021 with more areas, small and not in lymph nodes and no spread. Getting ready for basically another mastectomy and re-radiation (I went to 4 other major hospitals previously all recommended re-rad). It’s so rare that I have nothing to compare to. I have the most amazing oncologist who is being my Quarterback through it all but it’s scary. It’s 15 years out from first Mastectomy and rads so I am hoping this means it won’t be disastrous. I am not looking for nightmare stories, not sure I can handle that but just some kinship during this bizarre journey. Thank you.Xo

Bless your heart! I am sorry you're having to walk this, again. I don't have any experience in this but hope you get some encouraging stories of how others have coped!

    All the best!

Hi Celbris - I was diagnosed back in 2014 and had chemo, full mastectomy and reconstruction plus radiation. Unfortunately, new cancer was found in same breast in December 2020, and so far I had another full mastectomy and I am being treated with chemotherapy. The MO has recommended re-radiation because the tumor was very close to my chest wall. After chemo I will be having proton radiation to the same breast. I hope this helps you in terms of feeling not so alone. Have your docs mentioned proton ratherapy or are they going to do standard radiation?

    Hi, Carpe-Diem,

I just finished Radiation Therapy. I consulted with a Radiation Oncologist who has retreated many patients. I had initially gone in to talk about Proton, but we stuck with Photon. I ended up with 28 sessions with a bolus. Not sure my insurance would have covered Proton anyway. I hope you are doing well. Sounds like we have a lot in common. Keeping you in my thoughts. I hope Proton goes well for you <3
