Xeloda or Aromasin/Afinitor?
So, after 9 days on Piqray, I got the rash, that is a fairly common side effect with it. Mine was head to toe, plus mouth sores - all within two days of the rash starting. They were worried that if it got any worse, that my tongue or throat might swell up. Anyway, I'm moving on to a different treatment plan. My onc is going to look and see if there are any trials that I can do, but the two other options that she suggested were Xeloda or Afinitor/Aromasin. I'm wondering if one is more doable and how effective they were. I'd love input from any of you that have been on one of both of these. I know that Afinitor can also cause high blood sugar, (but I'm thinking not nearly as bad as PIqray?) and mouth sores can be a problem, but my onc said that they know have a mouthwash that is very effective for it. I also know a little about the hand and foot side effect with the Xeloda, and sounds like GI issues too? I've been on Ibrance and a couple of other hormonals, so I'm used to having a weakened immune system and the typical anti-hormonal stuff. I'd love to know what have your experiences have been on these, and any opinions as to which to try next.
Thanks,
Amy

Amy- I was on afinitor last year for 10 months. Now I am on xeloda. I found Afinitor to be the easiest of the meds- although I did do the mouthwash four times per Day for 8 weeks as a preventative and didn’t get mouth sores. A little tired for the first month. My TMs went down right away. My blood sugar went up, but, never into the abnormal range, my cholesterol also went up- not enough to need meds. My thin hair from ibrance became thick and lovely and leg cramps went away. Neuropathy was better, my anemia went away and my ANC while not robust was never low enough that I had to take a break Diabetics seem to have a lot of problems with this drug though
With xeloda I have leg cramps again my bilirubin is climbing a bit. My TMs came down dramatically and I hope that it works for quite awhile. I got the hand foot syndrome , but it is now minimal with a dose reduction. I feel like it is the first one that is affecting my mood- but, maybe that is the pandemic that is doing that.
good luck with your choice -
I have been on Xeloda 10 months and it is shrinking my liver mets. I have grade 1 HF syndrome (just feet thou) and with dose reduction, I live a quality life. It is not the same life as pre mets dx, but fine.
AA is on my list. I have FGFR1 amp mutation and it may have been the driver for my progression. I do not have ESR1 or PK3 mutations. If I attempt another antiestrogen, it will be with Afinitor as it is a mTOR inhibitor and MIGHT address this mutation.
